Would you....

An intriguing opportunity just came up and I would love to get your opinions/comments on this.

Would you flip a Lange WG Perpetual Calendar for a PP 5146g with enough funds leftover to acquire either a 5164 Travel Time or 5712-1A. There would still be approx $6k coming back to me. I should mention that I have owned the Aquanaut 5164 and 5712-1a in the past. I am also well aware of the fact that this is a PP forum.

All 4 pcs mentioned here are in indistinguishable-from-new condition.

For me, it would depend on how much I wear the Lange (which is absolutely stunning). If I wear it all the time, I would not. If I wear it sparingly, then I would. Then you could wear the 5146G sparingly, and the sportier model often.

Valid point Crystal. I love the Lange PC - to me one of the more handsome dials out there. But I have worn it only 3 times (2 weddings and a niece's graduation) since I bought it bnib 5 months ago due to fact I prefer to wear my more robust watches (ROOs and Platona) on a daily basis. The other possibility is to hold out for a lnib 5980 black dial to become available.

Even though i think the Langermatik perpetual its an awesome watch, I would do that trade yesterday. I haven't checked if your numbers are correct, but it sounds like they are. I saw a langermatik perpetual seating on DavidSW like for a year, hard watch to move and with this trade you are getting my favorite AC and one of the best nautilus in the market , so yeah absolutely. And if you ever want depart from them, you shouldn't but if you have to, you will have no problem ; those watches are as good as they get.

Now if I were you I would trade the Lange for the 5070, and i will be very happy, and you get 42mm of wrist presence (specially since you like more presence on your wrist, you might feel the 5146g 39mm case small)

Cheers

I absolutely love the 5070j. I would do that trade if a mint piece fell in my lap . I have seen too many over polished 5070j to be comfortable enough to acquire it. Of course I would need to pay on top of my Lange.

I prefer way more the Lange to the 5146, but the idea of having 5146 plus 5712 would make me do the trade, of course I would take something else than the 5146, but if you love it go for it

I have never liked the rg 5146 with the ivory dial or wg 5146 with the white dial but the WG model with the grey dial definitely spoke to me.

It's nice but the Lange dial kills it, if you were talking about the P blue dial it could be a contender though the Lange still wins IMO, the dial is just amazing. You say you wore it only 3 times, it's tough enough to be worn as a daily I'm sure, I would try to wear it in rotation, or even wear only the Lange for 10 days, then decide, but it really is an awesome watch, like Martin said, it's a way better watch than the Patek, but if you don't wear it then yes flip it, but you should try, but if you do the trade would you wear the 5146 more? Me I would not wear it but would wear the Lange

I agree I would try to wear the ALS more, start wearing it daily and see how you feel about it then.

I'm a PP fan and would usually choose PP over ALS but not in this case. The Langematik is a fantastic watch, with a stunning dial. If I were in your shoes I'd keep the Lange and pick up a 5711 or 5167.

Great suggestion. I have owned the 5711 and 5167 in the past but I found them a tad too thin and light for my liking. I ended up flipping them to acquire the 5164 and 5712-1a.

Cha ching! Actually I currently own a PT Daytona. I am thinking one platinum piece is enough for my collection. The 5146p is gorgeous, I agree.

I like the Lange and was seriously considering buying it but I just can't read the subdials even up close with my glasses on. But if that isn't a problem for you I would not do the trade, the Lange is a better watch all around than the two you would be getting imo. Wear the Lange more!

Martin, I have been admiring your 5170. Wow. I would consider acquiring the 5170g as the larger size gives it a sportier look and feel. Based on your experience, would you say the 5170g makes a better daily piece than the Lange?

The case of the 5170 is thin and very comfortable for daily wear but you do have to wind it and no lume so sometimes hard to read. No date etc. so it depends what you want. My 5905P is my daily wear so I'd probably go with the Lange.

Thank you for the very helpful information Martin. Will have to go to the local AD to try on the 5905p.

Love the ALS, and I'd be sad to see it go, but sometimes it's nice to diversify your collection further.

I'd try to at least pick up a more basic ALS with your new PP, since their movements are to die for.

Wear the Lange more. That'd be my preference.

The ALS is stunning. The other pieces you mentioned don't come close to it not only in terms of aesthetics but also complications. For me the trade would be a backward move but then again if you don't wear the ALS then it could work out for you and your lifestyle.

That Lange is a stunner and the 5146 does nothing for me. Seems very old school/vintage to me. The 5712 is hands down the best sports watch pp makes...maybe even on the market. I'd keep the Lange and save for that...or get a 5167

If you hardly ever bother to wear the Lange, then the same will hold true of the 5146, so the only benefit (of sorts) is that you’ll have a ’sporty-ish’ Patek to wear, but probably still less than your APs and Rolex.
Maybe the 5980 is worth holding out for after all.
Or maybe you buy a much cheaper dress watch, say a Moser rather than an FPJ, which you won’t feel guilty about not wearing often enough, so as to feel that you got your money’s worth from it.

The Langematik Perpetual in black is a stunning watch with a gorgeous movement.

You're right Jay. I don't think I would wear the 5146g any more than I would with the Lange PC.

The ALS is a better watch than the 5146 by a long margin but then like for like 100% more expensive!! I love the romantic ideal of the Lange but the subdials I can't read and even the AD got the day and month dial the wrong way round. Beautiful watch but 2:1 will be the PP for me.....however if we talking about a 5170R....well....now we talking!!
