Going crazy in the UK!

Out and about today and notice a used Submariner in the shop window of a jeweller...£6,500!! £800 above list price!!

And I was speaking to my local AD a few weeks ago, who told me they'd just sold a used BLNR at £500 over list.

Sports watches hard to get right now over here I guess?

I was in Manchester Trafford Centre yesterday and noticed there was a reasonable selection of SS models.

Milgauss
Explorer and Explorer 2
A couple of TT Gmt 2

And there was someone trying on an LVC but not sure if he ended up buying it. Definite short supply of SS models in general but it is possible to drop lucky, certainly not worth paying over RRP. I would much rather wait for the much talked about price rise and get a spanker.

I assume you're talking about Goldsmiths....

They're the muppets who quoted a 25 year wait on Daytona C I mentioned in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

Correct. I picked up my BLNR from them last year, not very helpful when I wasn't too happy with the cyclopse mag about a month later. But I still have a nose when I'm there.

Crazy price!!!!!
Glasgow preowned stores have some equally nutty pricing but today I saw exactly the same watch as that for £5450 so just under list. Still hardly a bargain.

A BLNR over list isn't great, a standard sub over list is just taking the mickey!!!

I wonder whether Rolex are playing a clever game in the UK right now; limit supply of the most popular models, watch the pre-owned prices increase as a result (above list in some cases), and then increase their prices, by which point the market will be used to higher prices, and the apperite of those wanting to buy new will be suitably whetted by having had to wait.

Crazy theory perhaps...

Not so crazy theory. It would help Rolex justify the higher price. I also believe the new 5 year warranty was introduced to raise prices in the pre owned and new markets.

Can't mess with the grey market dealers too much; it's an outlet for Rolex' own AD's to accommodate the manufacturer's purchase requirements.

Watchfinder's prices are highly marked up, sign of the times here... until the price increase.

Something definitely seems afoot. At the Rolex AD at Heathrow T5 yesterday, the wall displays that typically contain the ss sport models were all closed with wall panels. All they had on display were DJs, PM sport models and one ExpII.

I see that Watchfinder's stock of 16610LV Submariners are now listed at £6950 each. Earlier this year they were around £6250, some without box were even below £6k.

Have you seen their price on a 5 month old (never worn) BLNR?

http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/G...940/item/73158

I'm gob smacked.

A friend of mine paid £7250 for an unworn one Monday gone.

Lmao. You would have to be insane to pay the prices of some of these pre owned watches for sale.
It's not as though they are normally that restricted to get hold of. There is definitely a drought in this country but it has been created by Rolex and helped along by AD's imo.

Don't think it will change until the unicorn, sorry I mean price rise reveals itself and then the SS sports models will come out of the storage cupboard.

I wonder if someone where to walk into an AD and offer to pay £5500 for a new ND sub, if they would suddenly find one !!

Rolex MSRP prices are already pretty high for a SS watch. To pay over MSRP is crazy.

It is an AD. There are no restrictions on used prices.

When you say 'AD' you can't mean one of these stores listed on Rolex's website as a dealer as they wouldnt sell used pieces as Rolex wouldnt see a penny of that profit on the resale??

I do mean an AD and it is listed on the Rolex site. And they do sell used pieces. And they can sell them at any price they wish.

Goldsmiths (and parent company) is probably the largest AD chain in UK. They sell used Rolex in store.
