Yacht-Master or GMT Master II

Hi all,

I am looking to purchase my first Rolex and have been looking at the yacht-master with the blue dial and the GMT Master II with the black dial.

When trying them on in the AD, the lady suggested to me that the GMT was the better option and would hold its value, is this correct? Apparently the GMT is the more sought after watch.

Other than they way they look, does anyone have any opinions on one being a better option that the other?

Thanks, just looking for some input that may sway my decision as I like both

Go for the GMT. If you can, I'd go BLNR. That one is holding its value pretty well for now. On top of that, you get some blue.

Good luck and welcome to TRF

Most will say GMT Master II BLNR. It is a popular watch . I am looking to the Yacht master blue dial as well. That is a great looking watch. The GMT is a nice piece but I dont need the GMT function and I am really not a black dial person.

I'd get the GMT II, either LN or BLNR. To me, it's a more versatile piece.

I would go for the BLNR. I have to admit, out of all SS sports models, it retains most of its value. Buying pre-owned will save you a lot of money.

THe GMT is the more popular watch, especially on watch forums. But, I much prefer the Blue Yachtmaster; it's more striking IMO. The silver/ white platinum bezel of the Yachtmaster against the Blue dial is more unique looking than the black bezel/black dial look of the GMT.

Thanks all.

Another quick question, is it possible to negotiate discount at some places such as Beaverbrooks do you know?

Another option I am looking at is flying to non EU from Heathrow to get some discount, but with this I have to wait for the watch to be in stock.

The GMT is better @ holding value....the YM is a more "blingy" watch and also a little less common. If I had to only pick one, it'd be the GMT for complication.....if we're talking about the BLNR...I'd still pick that easily over the blue faced YM.......I have both since I love the blue dialed YM but I can't help but be in awe every time I see my BLNR.

Yeah I hadn't considered the GMT BLNR before but looking at it the blue kind of gives it a modern look and it is like the compromise between the two.

And much harder to get in the UK

Maybe why the AD was pushing the black bezel

GMT could cover from casual to formal, whereas the Yachtmaster leans a bit more to the casual side

GMT tends to hold better its value because of it popularity, but I feel that's not enough to go for it. GMT is a more functional than the YM.

I do like the YM becuase to me its the perfect blend of a sports watch with a simple classy dial that makes it very versatile. I would consider the grey dial over the blue, but thats just me.

Anyways, both are great watches and in between these, there's no wrong.

Good luck!

Go with the GMT, specifically the BLNR.

Go GMT. The YM is beautiful, especially the dial. but the platinum bezel easily scratches and after awhile I found to be dull and unattractive.

I love both the GMT and YM. The blue dial really stands out to me and can be more versatile at times. YM is also way more comfortable in my opinion and sits lower on your wrist due to thinner case. YM is also less common but probably won't hold value as well as BLNR. Both beautiful watches, what do you prefer more black or blue?

Great pic As I mentioned before, I think this watch looks way more unusual than a black dial/ black bezel watch. I also don't like the very busy/ loud font of the numbers against the black/ blue bezel of the GMTCs. Not too elegant. If I wanted a GMT, I'd go for the previous 16710s. Pepsi or Coke.

The blue/red combo on the YM is striking. But for your first I'd say GMT LN. BLNR if you can get your hands on one is better for resale value but I prefer the all black bezel.
