Incoming! Grand Seiko Hi-Beat GMT

I posted recently about my first Grand Seiko (the Snowflake). I like it so much, and also because I happened to be abroad and was able to get it for a good price, that I bought a Hi-Beat GMT (SBGJ003) to go with it, making for me the ideal GS pairing (light and dark dials, spring drive and hi-beat movements, titanium and steel construction). Perhaps needless to say, I like this a lot too! Build quality is again superb, and the dial is very special, with a very subtle sunburst type texture which is only apparent in certain lighting.

It wears very nicely; I was a bit worried about the thickness (listed at 14mm or so I think), but something about the case shape and the way it hugs my wrist makes it appear not nearly as thick as that.

The one thing I'm very slightly disappointed about, and I know I shouldn't be, is the accuracy: +5.5 seconds per day after a week. I know this is within spec and perfectly fine for practical purposes, but I was hoping for something really good from the hi-beat movement (the snowflake was +0.1 seconds after two weeks!).

Love the pictures of the hands, they look like razor blades.

First off, Many congratulations, that is a superb watch, your photography is also wonderful, it show off your beautiful watch perfectly. I have a High Beat as well, the timing is similar to yours, in all honesty, it slightly annoyed me at first, now? Not at all. Enjoy it, it's stunning.

Incoming! Grand Seiko Hi-Beat GMT

Very nice! I'd be a bit annoyed at that accuracy too - a good quartz should be +-5 sec/mth - even a hi-beat. A mechanical Rolex can manage +-2 sec/day.

Edit: sorry, I take that back. Got confused with a spring drive. +-5 sec is fine for a hi-beat mechanical.

Congratulations! That's a very beautiful watch, I've always considered buying that same model. I tried it on several times but eventually settled on the Snowflake. I think some day I will end up adding this GMT just as you have.

Thanks for sharing the amazing photos!

Great pictures of an absolutely gorgeous timepiece. For the uninformed the Grand Seiko line truly are so comprehensive that every day you will find a new detail. I have two spring drives and as you can tell love them. I like my Rolexs but love GSs. Good luck and enjoy.

I love the slight details of the finsihing and dial that Grand Seiko adds to their pieces.
I came really close to getting the Snowflake at one point, but I got the Speedmaster instead.

Nice watches.
I have a Snowflake. Awesome time piece. Also purchased a SBGM021 GMT with the cream face; a real beauty.

gorgeous! Grand Seikos get even better looking the closer you look at them!

+5.5s/day is well within acceptable tolerances. but what I appreciated about the hi-beat was it's consistency. it will run like that regardless of how you wear or store the watch!

Lovely piece! I just got one a few weeks ago and really like it. However, right now I am more impressed by your camera macro lens. Is that a 5x lens?

It's an Olloclip attachment for my iPhone, which has 7x, 14x and 21x options.

You should try it - phone cameras can be surprisingly good at macros - the extended DoF which can be a weakness for normal photography can really help with close-up work.

Beautiful watch. I purchased the white dial version with blue 24 hour hand. Just love it. A big Rolex fan and rotate my GS GMT on the wrist all the time.

It was. And is. But I was lucky enough to get a SBGJ021 so I traded in the 003. You really can't go wrong with any of the Hi-Beat GMTs.
