Icon7 Pelikan 101N Vintage beauty

Added this beauty to my Pelikan pens.
Judging from the green ink tank, and the small step on the front section, this dates from about 1939. The seller described this as from the first 101N year, 1937, but I think not. The early 101N's had amber, not green tanks. Pelikan lists this as a 100N, but it is usually described as a 101N, because the cap is matching tortoise to the body. A tortoise 100N which has a red cap, or a black cap, and tortoise body is generally called a 100N.
Earlier, in the month I picked up the 1937 100N, which I show in the last photo. It has an amber tank, and a red hard rubber cap and piston, which identifies it as being from the first 100N's.
The so called expert who sold it to me described it as a 101N ...... because the cap was red.
Much confusion with vintage Pelikans!

Now,
Why buy a vintage pen?
When one writes with a vintage pen, especially with with one that has a vintage nib, that has true,"flex" the writing has far, far, more expressiveness than ever could be written with anything modern.
The vintage nib will vary the thickness of the line being written, depending on the amount of pressure applied. This "modulating the words", adds expressiveness and emphasis. Which I say add dimension, power and color to the words.

With a modern fountain pen you are writing with a fountain pen.
With a vintage fountain pen you are talking with a fountain pen.

In the last picture I show the 101N tortoise alongside a 100N red cap tortoise.

ps
TRF is an expensive place to hang out!
A Rolex Explorer bought here ..
A Chopard L.U.C.bought here ...
A Pelikan 101N Tortoise and a 100N Tortoise, bought after reading so much .... too much!, in the pen forum about modern pens.
So little vintage...
This forum forced me to start again collecting vintage Pelicans
(thanks ... )

Rafael, your statement about the TRF being an expensive place to hang out could not be closer to the truth!!! First a watch then a pen, I'm going broke! This place is full of bad influences. LOL!!!
p.s. Great Pen!

The nightmare for my pocket here at TRF, is that the members, (to me, anyway), have been completely trustworthy ..... and honest.
The "fear aspect" associated with long distance shopping, (ie. taking a chance on ePrey etc.)... which saved me money ..... is pretty much gone.
TRF is the best !

Pelikan fountain pens and their nibs are the best there are bar none. Congratulations. Great pen, beautiful. I own the green 1933 or so.

Beautiful vintage Pelicans. I too am a lover of Pelikan fountain pens and would love to buy a vintage one. My Pelikan M1000 is the only modern pen I have with decent flex in the nib.

I have the pleasure of owning a 101 in Lizard and several other Pels.

They are the top of world class!

My compliments on a fantastic example!

Thanks guys.
Unfortunately, the 101 Tortoise has a new owner. I will miss her. The red cap 100N Tortoise stays .... for awhile anyway.
Picked up a mint condition Pelikan 400 Tortoise with a fantastic oblique Broad nib
....... and .....
on it's way from Germany .... is the reason I let go the 101 Tortoise .......
A super difficult to find Soennecken 222 Superior .... but more about the latter once it arrives.
I will post pictures.
