Loved my ROO...but it's gone as I've lost confidence!!

I loved this watch but changing the date on the 1st, the crown/stem cane out.

It's been repaired under warranty but I've lost confidence in the brand!

Rolex for me from now??

It happens. APs are temperamental machines. As I always say, you should be aware before jumping in so you know what you are getting into and avoid disappointments. Usually, you won't have issues after it is fixed and AP's service is the best in the industry.

Probably. Nothing like that would ever happen to a Rolex.

Unless I do not get your sarcasm, I would beg to differ. At more than a million watches made every year this has to happen to a few Rolex watches every now and then.

To the OP, that's unfortunate but it does happen even to the best of them and I would not let that drive me away from AP.

Sarcasm. Buy a used watch and it has an issue and you are soured entirely on the brand? Because this only happens to AP?

I see, it's hard to read sarcasm but I had a little doubt.

Enjoy the Daytona...we know those mass produced watches never break.

These are watches. ALL brands can and will break. It's ok.

Amazing... I fully understand why you wouldn't go back to AP in the near future.

It's my own personal opinion. Pull out the crown of a Rolex and and AP... I guarantee the AP feels more flimsy.

At the end of the day. I had the AP repaired under warranty and I've sold it for a £900 profit and I've bought a ceramic daytona. I am delighted!

I don't blame you for being turned off. There's no sense in trying to convince someone otherwise - I'd probably feel the same way as you, Gary!

Thanks Bill. I was lucky it was in warranty...if not it's a £1300 repair bill.

They don't feel as solid as Rolex I admit, but they've caused me no trouble so far and I know APSC deal with problems quickly and politely.

I agree. My APs never felt "solid" as a Rolex. Reminds me of an Aston Martin.....absolutely gorgeous but some work....some don't.

I'm not really into cars right now but just saw an Aston Martin the other day by the house and damn it looked good, made me even think of selling a couple of watches and putting one in the garage just to gaze at it whenever.

Well you're happy so enjoy that Rolex.

Glad you found a brand that fits you and you like.

BTW, do a search on Rolex thread--PLENTY of issues, but then again they make 1 million a year vs 35,000 like AP.

My S63 had a flat tire a cpl weeks ago... Who do I blame and leave, Mercedes or Continental tire?

On second thought, it was prolly APs fault some how.

Very minor issue.
I have pulled the crown out on my Rolex once.

I wouldn't let that hold too much weight.

He's looking for an excuse to justify his Daytona buy. AP obviously took great care of him and it's already repaired and sold.

So this happened a while ago, but he's bringing up now

That's fine Paul. As I mentioned on the other thread he started (do you really need two?), AP is not for everybody... And all the better for it.

You may be on to something there, Mike – is Gus telepathetic?
Or did he astral projected himself to the UK during the night of his alleged interference with Gary’s ROO?

Haven't tried astral projection since 1992, in any event I would have likely only gone as far as Brooklyn to avoid traffic.

Wait...so let me get this straight.

It was a 6 year old watch where we have no idea how it was treated prior to the OP buying it. Original owner could have pulled on the crown too hard for example.

AP fixes it under warranty, services the watch and gives you a 2 year warranty and you have "lost confidence in the brand"?

I have a friend who had one of those old AP ROOs. He used it as a single watch everyday for nearly 20 years without any service except for the low power reserve and gaskets 'sticking out'.

I convinced him to send it for service and he spent around 2800 US dollars.

Barely a year after service, the watch went back to AP SC Singapore 3 times for various reasons..ie suddenly stopped, sticky date etc. Its worthy to note that turnaround time for each back job is minimum of 3 mos. Despite said anomalies, he hasn't lost confidence on the brand but sold the watch also with full disclosure to the new buyer. Now he is enjoying his AP RO Jumbo.

This happened to one of my APs too...also happened to one of my Rolexes and one of my IWCs. It's just a small screw that retains the crown and if it comes loose the crown will come out. Rolex charged for a full service (was needed), local watch maker fixed the IWC for $50 and AP fixed it under warranty with a full service, 2 year extended warranty and a nice travel case. I've had many higher end watches over the last 15 years and had problems with every brand. Sh*t happens it's how the company deals with it and how quickly is really what matters to me.

I don't really get how that would be a black mark on AP's record. I've had things break and go wrong on watches of all brands, including Rolex.

It's part of mechanical watch ownership. Not everybody has the stomach for it.

That being said, a persons feelings are personal and cannot be argued. If you've lost confidence, you've lost confidence. Moving on seems a good choice for you. All of us here can agree that our passion for these timepieces is largely emotional, logic plays very little part in this.
