Impulse Buy - Grand Seiko

I had heard a lot about the Grand Seikos, that they exhibited amazing finishing and attention to detail. The 36,000 bph Hi Beat caught my attention as a technology geek, but I had not seen one in person. Over Thanksgiving I made it to my favorite watch purveyor in the north east and got to see some in the metal. The variety in complications and finishing is a bit overwhelming, but the watches are all terrific. Deciding which to take home took a while, but the Snowflake dial, and the amazing polish on the titanium won out. Quick shot on the flight home:

Unfortunately like so many others I struggle to drop that coin on a seiko despite their obvious craftsmanship. I'm not ignorant to their quality or history, it is there no doubt. I don't consider myself a brand snob either and I just cant put my finger on it. Yours looks great I have to say maybe its time to revisit.

Stunning watch - well done!

I understand completely. Was not sold until I saw, scrutinized and tried on several. Once you do, it is obvious the quality is there at a reasonable price point for the craftsmanship.

Fantastic watch, I really love Grand Seikos. My only concern, is the service network for Seiko is nowhere near what Rolex or other high end brands have.

I would definitely want more info on the post-sale service side of things before dropping that kind of coin on a GS.

Congrats though!
