Almost ready to make the jump
Hey guys,
I've had my Rolex Yachtmaster Platty 16622 for a while now and I'm almost ready to make the jump to Patek. And I need your help. For a while now the nautilus 5711/1a-011 has been my grail, but I've started to develop doubts. I know its really hard to say without trying the on the watch, but I feel its going to be a bit too big on my 6.5inch wrist, the 40mm rolex feels and looks great on me (pic below). For the above reason I've started to consider a 5167A-001. How does the feel and fit on this one compare to the nautilus? Im really attracted as well to the rubber strap and the posibility of having the steel one as well, something I've been trying for my YM but havent been able to acomplish this. Final question: should I go for the 5711 or the 5167? I just want an upgrade on my YM that I could use for ideally the rest of my life. Thanks! |

When you visit Chicago, you should visit the only Patek AD in Chicago and see what they have. Do not be surprised if they have a very small selection. I believe their Chicago location is fairly new. |

If the YM is ok, I would not expect either the 5711 or 5167 to seem big. If anything, may feel a bit smaller, particularly the 5167 on rubber.
Do you have a line on one at an AD when you are in the US? Neither the 5167 or 5711 sit in a case long, if at all, so good luck finding a 5711 readily available, though you may have a shot since you are after the white dial. I think the debate is one that's been going on for some time - do a google search "5167 vs 5711" and you'll get a number of hits, including some on TRF like this: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=279994 I've debated the same in my mind for a while, have the 5167 and now waiting for a 5711 to arrive at my AD...so I went "both." But if I had to choose one, it'd be the 5167 on rubber; its more "me." Which I find funny since if you asked a number of years ago if I'd spend that kind of money on a watch on a rubber strap, I'd have scoffed. Now its one of my favorites. Owned the steel bracelet one years ago and it got old quick...if wanting a bracelet for sure, then 5711 is the one I would choose. |

The nautilus will fit you fine if the yachtmaster is OK on you. It's not like the AP 15202, which doesn't fit some people's wrist shape due to the lugs.

5711 if you can find one. Fit and comfort would not be an issue with either the 5167/5711. The 5167 might have been the most comfortable watch I've ever owned. 😀😀

Get the 5711, the 5167 is nice but not the same level IMHO

Of the two, the 5711. But I'd recommend the 5712/1a over both. Good luck with your decision.

The 5711 will fit you fine. My preference was to go 5167 and 15400 instead, but go with what you love.

5711 BLUE dial will fit you fine. Do not pay a penny over retail. I have said this over and over...Take time and call every US AD (if you are serious and have a wire transfer ready to go) and you will have a watch in 3 months or less is my guess. Congrats In Advance!

The 5711 is more expensive and comes on a bracelet. You mentioned you want a daily wear, the 5167 can be worn in pretty much any circumstance. Given you have a Rolex on bracelet, would the 5167 not add a bit more diversity?
I own the 5167 and it is very comfortable - just a few points to think about. Cheers Anuj |

The Aquanaut wears smaller than the YM in my opinion. I haven't had the chance to try on a 5711 so cannot comment on that. The 5167 on rubber feels smaller than when it's on bracelet. Also I've read that the earlier 5167 on rubber can't accept the bracelet so might want to confirm that if you don't buy it on bracelet to begin with.

In my opinion, I think the 5167 wears smaller than a 40mm Rolex, and the 5711 wears smaller than the 5167

Neither the 5711 nor the 5167 will wear too big if you are used to a 40mm Rolex. Due to the slim case design they might even appear smaller.
I have both and I tend to wear the Aquanaut more frequently. Similar watches at first glance but still totally different. Good luck with your decision. |
