Houston- we might have a problem: 5905

Woke up yesterday, my 4 month old Patek 5905 had stopped. Was wearing it the day before so that was odd. The watch i Think has a 72 hour power reserve. However the stopwatch was running so I thought I must have accidentally started the Chrono24 and left it running overnight which drained the power.

Wore it again yesterday with no chrono- everything fine all day. This morning- stopped again.

Looks like I'm gonna be sending it in to the AD. Pisser as I now have to sit and wait likely months to get the watch back. Maybe they will give me a 5524 as compensation for my troubles. 😊 :)

Nothing strange seems Patek wants to see every watch after sold:-)

I am sorry to hear of your problem with the 5905. I hope Patek will repair and return the watch to you in a timely manner.

55 hours PR is the maximum suggested for the 240 caliber – have you given it a full wind manually?
If not, do so, then see how long it lasts before stopping – maybe you just weren’t active enough to keep it wound.

5205 equipped w cal 28 520,btw the cal 240 is a superb movement in every terms, pretty accurate and gets fully wound during the trip from my house until i get into the office (20mins by car),i can really recommend since aesthetically pleasing and one of the very few of PP creatures which is lack of problems.

5905 you meant – the 5205 uses a 324, which tops out at 45 hours.

^ Absolutely agree with this. The cal 240 is superb in every respect and bulletproof in my experience. Of all the mechanical QC issues we seem to hear about, few involve the 240.

Your watch should be earning frequent flyer miles soon, the 5905 will have to go back to Geneva for repair, Patek doesn't work on that reference in the USA. Three months or more. Mine was already sent once for warranty work and may be going back again.

I know. Pisser. 3 months without my watch. really sucky-
going to wear it all day again today and see what happens in the morning. Not to pleased with a purchase of this size having to have warranty work 3 months out.

oh well - it is what it is. Not going to go ballistic over this.

Sorry to be the barer of bad, or worse news but you're looking at more like 5-9 months for that to be gone unless you have friends, or friends who have friends in Geneva.

Have whoever sold it to you give you a watch at cost deal in the meantime!

Not necessarily, I had mine back in three months, warranty work seems to get done a little faster than regular service.

It took them 4 months to repair a buckle on a brand new 5726 over a year ago for me. I have a feeling it's only gotten worse from then on, and throw in actually working on a complication watch so to speak...I'd be shocked if it was less than 5 months.

Sounds like a power reserve / mainspring issue. Hopefully the warranty work will be quicker; otherwise 6 to 9 month is a long wait.

hummmm...Buckle in, you might be without that piece for a bit.

Patek has not been very quick on the service front.

Sorry to hear this. I would start by asking your AD to request a new one for you. Document everything on paper and bring it with you when you go to see your AD. I did this with my original 5270 that had problems within a very short period of time of my purchase. My AD was an advocate for me. Patek offered to replace mine with a new one (both the G white dial (3rd generation) and the R version were available at that time). If that doesn't work, I for sure would lean on your AD to help you get it back quicker since it's so new. Good luck and keep us posted.

It all depends on the price of the 5270 (i.e. The cash differential). I had the 5270g-019 (the one that was of issue) - it's beautiful, but a very different look than the R, which I know you've been eyeing. I would suggest get what you love at this price range, whichever it may be.

Here are a few pics to whet your appetite.
