Need serious advice about yachtmaster

I am deciding between a Z and M serial number Platinum yachtmaster 40mm. I know that the M has the rolex ring inside but i also heard that late model Z have it. Is that true? Also, are there any other differences between the models? Does the Z have the old holigram on the back? I would like the M but the Z is 500 less, obviously old stock.

We always give serious advice..

Some "Z"s may have the etched rehaut.

Some "Z"s may have the hologram..

Beyond that, both watches should be identical. If they are from an AD, then you can save a few bucks on one.

Get the one you want..

any ideas when things shifted over for the Z series, ie is there any way to tell by the serial number what the watch will look like? Whey did they get rid of the hologram?

Mike,

I think everyone tried to explain it to you, but here it is again. The only difference you will see in the "Z" & "M" prefixed serial number, MIGHT be the "rolex rolex rolex rolex" engraved inner ring inside the crystal.

I personally have one "Z" and four "M" prefixed serial numbered watches and all of them have the "rolex rolex rolex rolex" engraved inner ring inside the crystal except my "M" series Sea-Dweller, and I don't think any Sea-Dwellers do.............

Matt

I don't really plan on selling it, obviously I like the look of the M but its hard to pass up on the savings! Is there any down side to buying an older stock watch such as mechanical maitenance that would have to be done earlier?

I really appreciate everyones input. This will be my first Rolex and don't want to make a rookie mistake.

If it's a new watch, the clock starts on the day the initial warranty is filled out..... A new watch is a new watch.....

There are no time sensitive components inside the watch that would cause it to need maintenance any sooner than another one..

I have a Z-625XXX which has the Rolex inscription all around the rehaut ring and it also came with the original green hologram.

Had bought it last December.

I agree also - save the money. No reason IMO to buy later model especialy if bought from an AD.

Z is the last letter of the alphabet, therefor is the best! LOL. Jokes aside, I would go for th extra $500 in my pocket.

Even if you could get more for it in two years or so, it won't be as much as 500.
Btw, I have a Z Daytona and an M GMT2 and as long as they have the inner ingraving I don't care what's the first letter of the serial number.

Nice watch...A very slow mover at my AD. I would assume you could get a better price reduction on either one. Maybe save 1000 on the z or 500 on the m. Pay CASH if you can for your best deal... probably can squeeze them even more. Cheers.

HI Mike,

I wrestled with the exact same scenario although I was buying a Steel and Gold Y/M. For me it came down to whether or not I wanted to pay for the chapter ring as there really is no other difference. If the watches are the same price one "Z" the other "M" and both have the chapter ring I would take the "M". If you have to pay more for the chapter ring, that is a decision only you can make. My decision was to save the $500 and buy the "Z" which in my case did not have the chapter ring. I felt ( and this is just me ) that I was fortunate enough that I was able to buy the watch in the first place and as I won't likely be selling it and I love the watch with or WOCR it was a small sacrifice to make.

Dwayne

Yes, 500 is not that big of a deal, but what in the end does it really get you? Not much if you really think about it.
