MB&F HM5 Carbon vs AP RB II Ti

Hi ! Long time lurker here. Currently I am considering to buy either one of MB&F HM5 Carbon or the AP RB II Ti. I have tried the MB&F HM5 albeit in rose gold and it is simply a stunning piece and sits on my wrist perfectly. However, AP RB II Ti is one of the most iconic ROO out there. What do you guys think ?

MB&F HM5 Carbon Pros:
  1. About 5-7k cheaper than RB II
  2. More Limited piece (66 pieces)
  3. Unique
  4. I love MB&F and appreciate what Max has done

Cons
  1. Not a watch in traditional sense
  2. Afraid value does not hold as well
  3. I must wait at least a month to get it
  4. Harder to service in my area

Pics

AP RB II Ti Pros
  1. One of the most iconic ROO
  2. I love the bulky and intimidating look
  3. Holds value very well since it is discontinued
  4. Easier servicing

Cons
  1. Non-caseback
  2. Pretty old
  3. I already have AP ROO Black/Red

RBII without even knowing the other watch.

To set your expectations though; prices of RB2 are softening apparently.

Hi ! I am leaning towards buying RB 2. What is the good price to buy and why are the prices are softening ? Any reason ? Thank you

Would love for you to get an MB&F just so we have an owner here.

But my money would stay with RB II

Yes the logical thought is to buy the RB II since it is readily available right now for me and holds value better than MB&F. However I already owned a ROO and after trying the MB&F I am absolutely stunned by the quality and fit.

This would be a very tough choice

I love MB&F but that version isn't my favorite.

Stick with the RBII

Market definitely a little softer but then the overall market is. I am bid around 35 for my RB2 and a couple of years back this would have been 37-38 so not a massive difference. I suspect the titanium Schumacher is probably taking some of the RB2 potential buyers.

My grey dealer is offering me a recently serviced RB2 for 38k USD. So I guess I need to negotiate a bit for a discount

That's a fair price for a recently serviced one I think. As I say I am being bid 35 for mine by dealers who then need to take a cut when they sell.

I would go for MB&F if you have other watches, really love it and won't need to sell it, it's very interesting and the fit is great, but then I love unconventional watches, just don't have the balls to put my money into one, love the Urwerk 105M dark knight, tried one on and the fit was perfect, but I like this one as well, reminds me of the old car radios and alarms from the 70's. So hopefully the prices will continue to go down on these two models, might get one if one day they hit 25, or when I won't really care about resale, but if you are braver than me go for the MB&F, it's the kind of watch that most people won't understand but who cares, and no it doesn't look like an airplane seat belt

Currently I have a Rolex, an AP, 2 RM and 1 PP. The concern on MBF is regarding its value if I ever need to sell one. Do you reckon a possibility for the RB2 dropping to mid-low 30k or high 20s ?

I could imagine it dropping to about 32 in a few years if the market stays soft as it is now, but below that would IMHO be very unlikely. Seeing the watches you have I would really go MB&F, my kid being in school I can't see myself getting it or an Urwerk 105, love both, just haven't tried the MB yet, but from pics I am sure the fit is perfect, as is the 105, if my investments turn out as expected and when my kid finishes college it is sure I will get one of these, or a similar model, would like a RM also but not the same kind of money

I have tried the HM5 albeit the rose gold version and it fits perfectly and sits beautifully. Other Dealers around my region are still opening price on RB2 for around 40-42k usd but I dont know if they sell or not. Eyeing UR-105 as well and been offered a RG version for around 43k however after seeing Urwerk doesnt always done well in auctions or secondhand market I backed off.

Not a huge fan of this model http://www.chrono24.com/mbf/hmx-black--id4726728.htm but the black carbon one is really cool, but if to choose I would probably take the Urwerk 105, really like it and would love to have 1 special watch in the collection, but not before some time
