Rolex Stopwatch
Hello,
does anyone know where to get information on a Rolex Stopwatch? is there even a market for one? Its 100% real as it belonged to my father, before he became (big boned/pleasantly plump) he was athletic in high school and made sense why he owned it. I will gladly post pictures on this forum once I find it again. I had it in my hands end of February and placed it in a safe location. The problem is that I cant seem to remember where I put it. I will look this weekend and hopefully find it again. I cant find any resource that can give me an idea with the price. Thanks Leo |

Do you mean the Rolex Cosmograph (Daytona)?

I have an old Rolex Stopwatch that I missed placed and I am currently looking for at home. I should have it by this weekend, Its not a watch and it has the original straps, I will post a picture as soon as possible. I cant seem to find any resource on the web that has any information on Rolex stopwatches.

Sounds like it's either fake or very valuable!

Aaron Faber has a fair collection of pocket watches and knowledge about them.
Can't recall seeing any Rolex pocket watches but a good variety of prowled and vintage pieces. http://www.aaronfaber.com/searchItem.asp

This is the only model of stopwatch I've ever known that Rolex has made that isn't a wrist watch. There was an almost brand new example with full Rolex paperwork that sold auction in the UK in 2014 for around $1400US. There are other stopwatches that were boutique assembled that didnt come directly from Rolex. I think they called those the "Simple Recorder". There is one on the Bay right now but I question its authenticity. The one pictured below is from the 2014 auction.

A really simple answer to start off with is, yes, there is a market for anything that was manufactured by Rolex and the values are all above what the same thing made by other common watchmakers would be by 10x if not more, excepting the other prestigious makers.
If the watch has the original straps, as you indicate, and it is real which could be likely, it is probably a Cosmograph or chronograph. I've heard a lot of people who aren't "watch people" call chronographs "stop watches" If you search Google or ebay or these forums for Cosmograph you will quickly see what they are and if it is what you have. If so the values associated should inspire you to drop everything except searching for it. I hope it is what you have and will soon be posting photographs of it and the box and papers. It is always exciting to see something like this surface. Good luck. |

Is it a pocket watch or a wristwatch? Sounds intriguing if not a Daytona chronograph.
