Owning both Daytona Cs???

Im thinking very hard about adding the black dial 116500 which would prompt the sale of my BLNR. I am a 4 watch collection guy. My collection is the BLNR, white Daytona C, 116518-YG Daytona on strap, and the blue Milgauss. Having 3 Daytonas wont be much diversification but I'm tired of the BLNR and find myself really liking the black C. I'd basically turn my black C into my everyday watch (the role of my BLNR). I just worry a hair I'll find the Daytonas a bit too similar. I'd love to hear any comments from my TRF brothers. Thanks in advance!

If the blnr has grown a bit stale, maybe it's time for a Hulk. I personally like a lot of variety but the ceramic Daytonas are great watches. I am just not much help haha.

I'd look at new gold Daytonas on oysterflex this year instead..but it wouldn't be a bad idea,I have both 116520s and they wear very differently.

Go for it. In fact, I like it when people show their appreciation of a single line by collecting different references within it.

Perhaps not a fan of the mercedes hand and/or maxi case? Three out of four watches being Daytona's does seem like a lot. A suggestion is the new DJ41 in SS which wears similar to a Daytona and Milgauss and would make a great daily watch with the longer power reserve and date function, plus it looks great and very comfortable with the slimmed down case. Good luck! Cheers!

Let me tell you right now, don't feel the need to skimp on something you like just to add "variety" to your collection.

"Variety" means nothing to me. I just like certain watches and if they happen to be 90% similar then who gives a rat's booty.

Way too similar imo.

Beach out to other brands / complications. Variety is the spice of life!

Go with your heart! The Daytona is my favorite model, and I've had a few! I'd LOVE to add one or two more Daytonas to my current 116520.

They just make me happy!

I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

There's some guys who are into Subs, or GMTs or Daytonas. If you have found your niche, run with it

Hey Rick! For me the two watches wear completely different. I can wear my black dial with a suit, where the white dial might look out of place. Yet the white dial can be worn casually with shorts and flip-flops! Both of mine get equal wrist-time, just depending on the occasion. I actually don't like one better than the other.

Btw...I'm the last guy to ask if there is such thing as enough Daytonas...I want them all!

As much as I love my DaytonaC, I don't think I would ever add the black dial as both watches would be way too similar.

There are way too many attractive watches out there to own two of the same models - why not wait for the PM DaytonaC or SkyDweller that you were originally interested in?

Do it. Variety is overrated.

Since your original thread with all those great photos a year ago stimulated me to yearn for a Daytona C let me return the favor. I'm approaching two weeks in since going grey market and ending the frustrating AD wait, and my Black C has done the one thing I thought could never be done- replaced my beloved Submariner as my go-to daily wearer. Turns out I'm a stainless and black kind of guy and to deprive oneself of the best black on stainless watch Rolex has ever created is a gross injustice.

Do it and don't look back. I'm considering a White C down the road as a change up myself, I think many people will follow suit.

Good memory my friend!!! I was very interested in the blue Sky D BUT the new blue Milgauss i just bought really took care of my blue fix!! A black SkyD seems unlikely. As far as the WG Daytona, the new WG model is a Home Run but a bit out of my price range esp for a watch with a rubber strap. A year or two later, and its on! I love the Raider!!

Glad to hear you are liking yours so much and really happy you liked all of the pics! I think this move is a matter of time.... Prob a month away. Like yours, it will become my daily. I'm not a big fan of my white as a daily, but the black should be just right!!!

Thank you for the kind words.

For years I tried to mix up metals and dials and bezels in the name of "diversity" and it was a decade-long waste of time. It took me several purchases and resales to realize I like black dials, stainless steel cases and oyster bracelets and that's it. Explorer 1016, Sub Date, Daytona C, done. Life is so less complicated now.

I feel your pain as Ive bought over 25 Rolexs in the past 6 years and 5 is the most I've owned at one time. Lots of dealing and lost money BUT man its fun!!

Fun, no doubt, I have no financial regrets.

But if there was one thing that I do regret was the personal struggle. Gnawing at me each morning as I reached into the watch box to pick the Rolex I'd wear each day were the three I never felt compelled to wear. And each day that I'd pass on them, and as those days turned into months, I started to feel more and more pressure to want to wear them. And I never did.

So I decided to take action and get those lesser Rolexes out of my life, use the funds towards kicking that frustrating AD waitlist to the curb too. And within a week I had my Daytona C and now there's nothing in that watch box begging for wrist time it will never see. Black dial, SS, Oyster, that's my combination. I know some will say that I "need" a white dial Rolex, but their offerings right now are very limited, it's an oversized DJ or an oversized Explorer II, neither suit me. So that's why I can see a point in the future where I'll add a second 500C just for a color change, like what you're considering now.

3 Daytonas in a 4 watch collection seems awfully limited....but if you love the Daytona and just aren't in love with the BLNR then go for it! The black and white Daytonas are both beautiful.

Personally I'd move the Milgauss instead of the BLNR, but that is just a watch that doesn't do anything for me personally. I'd also want a Sub in any Rolex collection, but maybe you've already been down that road.

It's really just about finding what makes you happy, and if that is 3 Daytonas then I wouldn't argue and you shouldn't fight it. There are worse decisions than building a collection around what is one of the most desireable Rolex models ever.

For some reason I absolutely LOVE the blue Milgauss!! I do understand why many don't though. The other colors dont do it for me though. As far as Subs, Ive had nearly all the SS models and both TTs. As fas as the 116610 goes, its just way too commmon for me. I was at a tailgate party a few years back and there were about 15 law students there all flaunting their 16610s that Daddy bought for them. It was then and there that I realized I wanted something far less common. Great watch though!!

Get the black dial. You have diversity in colors instead of model numbers. The black dial is my favorite SS version.

David, we are once again thinking a like!!! I was really insistent on keeping a black dial in the collection. That, to me, makes sense AND if I dont like it, I can certainly get my money back out of it.

I'm sure you've owned a Sub before, but what about a black dial / bezel Sub as your everyday watch? That way you get something new (almost the perfect watch) and you won't have three Daytona's?
