Cold feet
Buying my first Rolex soon. It's my first nice watch and am getting cold feet.
I feel like there will always be a dozen reasons not to spend the money but looking for people's thoughts. |

You're right. There will always be many reasons not to spend the money.
Do you have a specific question? |

We do this because we love our wrist candy and at the end of the day I can spend my hard earned sheckles on watches or hookers and gambling my wife voted for watches

My one regret had nothing to do with the cost; instead, it was regret over waiting as long as I did and wasting money on other watches. You're not doing anything illegal, or immoral, and as long as your bills are paid and are not putting yourself in debt at the expense of saving for your future, should not have any reservations about buying a Rolex. |

my two cents.
If you feel this way now the first few days of buyers remorse will be terrible. If i were to advice the average Joe (at least in income) like i am, for his first i would suggest saving money for the watch specifically, not just waiting till it seems you have enough surplus. and try purchasing around a special event if you can or want to. For me it gave me the feeling of knowing that is what i intended the money for from the first dollar saved, and i can associate it with a special memory (my daughter being born) |

Take your time, but if you really want the watch and feel you have earned it in some way then seize the day, tomorrow is unpromised as we all know far too well lately.

I'm very much in the same boat. My biggest hang up is which model as a case can be made for any of them. As for the money side, I will either continue setting money aside until I can buy it outright or use a promotional 0 interest for x amount of time finance option. As long as it matches up with the amount I'm setting aside on a monthly basis anyway. As stated above tomorrow is never promised.

You're not alone. After the wonder fades, the money is spent, and you have a beautiful timepiece to cherish. If you decide that's not the case, you can sell and recoup most (if not all) of what you spent. Life is short. Do what pleases you. Good luck!

10. Don't wear it with bezel protector. 11. You can wear it when you do [insert any activity here]. 12. The water proof rating is good enough for rain or doing dishes at sink. |

Buy right and you won't lose any money should you regret and decide to sell. However, choose carefully. If you buy PM, you're going to take a hit. If you buy a SS sports model (especially Sub, BLNR) then you'll be fine.

So I got good news and bad news for you. First, the bad news. You're gonna die. Maybe tomorrow, maybe 90 years from now. The good news is you're even contemplating the purchase, meaning you have the means to do something nice for yourself. Assuming you have the surplus cash, enjoy.
As long as you are not blowing off obligations, enjoy life a little. Having said that, this forum is a dangerous place. There are guys here with one watch and then there are guys with a million bucks worth of watches. It's kind of hard to live within your means when you see some dude on the internet post that he has six PM watches, know what I mean?

The little secret that most people don't know is that if you buy the right Rolex not only will it retain its value, but after 10 or 15 years it will actually earn you money. Many people think I am Richie Rich because I had 6 Rolexes in my collection. In reality, it's just another way to invest one's money. In the end, 4 of my 6 selections will completely pay for themselves and the other two and give me some pocket change to spare. So if you buy the right Rolex you don't have to concern yourself with losing money. You only have to concern yourself with not having that cash as a liquid asset for, say, 10 years as opposed to one that's tied up in a luxury timepiece. For me, that first Rolex put a little dent in my fun money budget but not once did I look down upon my Submariner and see it as a waste. In fact, I will wind up with 20 years of enjoyment and then get every penny back I paid and then some. |

No guts no glory
Serious, I understand, been there, but you only live once and spending cash on a nice watch is really quite responsible compared to spending on cars or boats. Buy from a trusted seller and in case you have to liquidate the hit will not be so hard as when bought from an AD. Making money on a new model over time is not likely to happen. In return you get this wonderful feeling looking at your wrist

There's been many watches I wanted at one time or another, great deals that were worth serious consideration, etc. However, I almost always gave it some time to see if it was just a passing fancy or more. That's saved me a fortune.
Think it over long and hard, they'll still be there when you know it's time to add something to the stable.

If you buy it right, there is very little risk. Should you regret your purchase (assuming you buy it for a good price) you can always sell it and not really take a loss. In that regard, owning a Rolex can be less expensive than some cheap watch that doesn't hold value.

Don't overthink it. As others have said, worst case scenario you can liquidate it quickly and recoup most of your money. Go for it!

I just bought my first one this week. I had looked into buying one for years and like you, always found a reason not to. I finally decided to do it for two reasons. One, is I have worked hard for what I have and felt I deserved to treat myself to something luxurious. Two, is life is short and you can't take it with you! As long as it isn't a recklessly irresponsible purchase, why not? Gotta live whike you're alive. Good luck in your decision making!
