Tudor Basel 2017 Black Bay S&G 79733

So a little background...while I love vintage watches, in particular a 5513 or 1016, the high cost and doubtful genuineness has been giving me cold feet. I've picked up a few new and vintage pieces in the last couple years but a Sub has been missing in my collection and I'm not particularly fond of the square maxi case of the current SubC.

Which brings me to the Black Bay, and on numerous occasions I've almost picked up a Black Bay Noir. However, it's lack of a date complication left me wanting more....

Enter Basel 2017 and the announcement of the BB S&G and the BB Steel, was my prayers answered!! The toolish BB with date! I love it so much upon the news breaking I called my AD and asked to be called the minute they have one in. Yes I also played with the idea of the BB Chrono a bit but ultimately the snowflake hands on the chrono just wasn't good enough for me.

Now we all know that normally when a new watch is announced in Basel, ADs won't get them until at least Sept. So imagine my surprise when they called on last Sunday that they have two S&Gs in stock.

So I went to my Hong Kong AD on Monday (22nd) and boy is it gorgeous! In the flesh it is exactly what I've been waiting for...a chamfered case with slim downed lugs, beautiful black/gold bezel insert...and a date that doesn't stand out like an afterthought. Plus the gold? Now normally I'd associate a two-tone watch as an "old" watch...shinny, pretentious, and looks like what an old uncle would wear. NOT this Tudor! The gold is so toned down with the fine brushed finish it looks almost like bronze. So of course there's only one thing left to do, the plastic comes out from the wallet, the plastic comes off the watch, and the steel and gold is on my wrist!

In the last few days accuracy has been great, averaging +0.5sec/day so I'm happy. Date change is instantaneous at 12:02 so that's close enough.

Managed to take some semi-decent photos in the last few days so here they are.

If you've read about the S&G you're probably aware that not all these gold parts are solid 18k gold...only the bezel and the endlinks are. The crown and bracelet center links are gold capped. If you have and reservation on this, don't. The gold is quite thick so I doubt if you'll ever be able to wear that off.

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and I would definitely do the same if ever I be required to make that same decision all over.

Cheers and have a great weekend you all!

Congrats, I'm looking forward to seeing the new Tudor watches in the flesh. The S&G is a winner.

Wow, congratulations! The gold does have a bronze hue to it. Great shot showing the thickness of the plating, it is very thick. Wear that beauty in the best of health!

Looks really good! I'm glad they went with a brushed finish on the center links.

Congratulations. My AD got one in the other day and I got to handle it. The pictures do not do this watch justice. It is beautiful and could lure me back into the TT market. Never thought I would say that. Waiting to see the new Chrono and Black Bay with the steel bezel. Might have this watch on my wrist as I do not own a TT.

Congrats and thanks for the pics! I was intitally turned off when I read gold capped, but after seeing it, I'd be fine with that after seeing thst detail shot. That is some thick gold plating really and looks very nicely done.

Man I love that watch but the plating kills it for me. I wish they had done a rolled gold like the older 16613 instead. But hey who am I to judge? That is an awesome choice my friend. It looks great on you wear her in good health!

I have no problem wearing slightly bigger watches, I ain't to please no once else but myself

My collection range from a 34mm Rolex 6694, to the largest being the 42mm 216570 Polar.

To put things into perspective, here's the S&G on my 6.2" wrist

And here's my 39mm Explorer 214270

And the 42mm 216570 Explorer II

Yes the S&G and the Explorer II wear large, but they do fit. The diving bezel helps break up the visual cues so it actually wears a bit smaller than the Explorer II.

The thicker case of the Black Bay gives it a prominent wrist presence, without looking weird.

I love it!

I tried one on last week, and was very impressed, for £3K it is amazing value, was very tempted to just buy on the spot.

Q: how do you take links out of the new riveted bracelets?

If I didn't already have the GMTc TT I would have gone with the BB S&G . Local Tudor AD in Chester ( UK ) had one in stock on Saturday Morning , it was gone by the afternoon . I was luckily enough to pick this up Yesterday ,both great looking Watches & enjoy wearing .

Really nice. I like it.

Dm Robinson Canary Wharf still have the s&g I posted 2 weeks ago if anyone is inclined. 3.4k but pretty good value I think.

It's anodized aluminum actually, from what I read on the site.
