Should I trade my PAM for a SubC?
I've been progressively moving up the food chain since getting bit by the watch bug and recently purchased a PAM 510 from my local AD. It was my first luxury piece and certainly the most expensive to-date. I've never owned a Rolex and at the time I picked up the PAM I was considering either it or the SubC date, ultimately going with the PAM as it had been a desire for a long while and at the time felt the look better fit my style (I've always considered myself more on the raw/edgy side as opposed to reserved/classy).
Fast forward a few months and now the Sub is keeping me up at night–something about it's timeless appeal. I also struggle with strap fit throughout the day and love the idea of the glide-lock clasp. Ugh. Im also romanticized by and very seriously considering going down the 1-watch road, mostly because I'm growing tired of the dissonance I feel when choosing which to wear each morning. Im not sure I could do it with the PAM as it lacks a date and isn't as versatile imo. I'm very close to trading it in + cash to acquire a new Sub, taking a decent hit on the PAM, and I can't justify financially having both. While I don't buy watches as an investment, something tells me the Sub will treat me kinder in this regard and will end up something I'm more likely to pass on some day. Realizing this is a Rolex forum, should I do it? Also, for folks that work on a computer all day, does the glide-lock clasp thickness bother your wrist while typing for long periods? I have some thick straps for my PAM that can get painful over time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The Subc clasp has never gotten in my way in three years of wear. Go for it, it's an amazingly versatile piece that will last practically forever.

I started with a 114060 No Date Sub C. Switched to a Pam 504, then 312. Even though i love the Pams, I miss the versatility of a SS Rolex. Finally sold the others and got myself a Hulk. Couldn't be happier.
By the way, I've never had a problem with the glidelock clasp catching on anything personally. Mine is a daily wear at the office. |

Give the Submariner a try and see how it goes. You can always trade back again if you're unhappy. The fun of Panerais is the slew of customisable exotic watch straps out there to dress up or down any model.

No, I would save & add. Panerai and Rolex make for a great pairing, especially given their shared history. You'll find that many of those here urging you to trade the Panerai don't like the brand, so you'll be getting biased opinions.
The 510 is a very nice piece and gives you the option of enjoying different straps and buckles.

Agreed. And depending on whether you bight used, new, got a large discount or didn't, you will likely take a bath on the PAM. Frankly I don't think it's worth dumping for what you'll pull out of it. Even if the Sub becomes your daily your PAM will be a nice change from time to time, my guess is that you'll appreciate it more as a contrast.

Why take a massive hit on the 510 if you don't need to? Do you have any other pieces that you could trade for the Sub instead? I love my Sub but I love my PAMs too

I find that Pan crown guard signature look very, very off-putting. So I would say swap it for *anything.* lol
Watch mistakes can be kind of expensive. What do you think will make you happy years down the road?

I would suggest that both watches are very different and need to be worn to appreciate that. Coming from a Pam I would think the Sub feels very different. It overall I would totally do that. And also, consider an older version as well. Different character, maybe a 5 digit SD etc...

The PAM is nice, but if it's your only piece, I'd move the PAM for the SubC in a heartbeat. Half a heartbeat.
