While at AD, got to try on a SD43 and also DSSD...
SD43 was already spoken for, so no soup for me. But I got to put it on for a tiny fracture of a micro second to see how it fits. Knowing it was already spoken for, I was extremely respectful to it while trying it on, so much so that AD people were impressed and thankful!
My take on SD43: it feels like a BIG watch on my wrist... BIG but manageable. The sweet spot for me personally seems to be 40-41mm size. Not having seen SD43 in person, I had mixed feelings and worried about its size, but seeing it in person and trying it on for a short minute or so did make me feel better about it.... I wouldn't say it is too big, just BIG. The other appeal is the 50th anniversary, matching my 50th birthday coming in few months. I just have to decide if I like a bigger watch on my wrist or not. (And then, of course, If I find that I want to go ahead with purchasing one, the hard part of finding some way to justify a $12k'ish purchase of yet another Rolex to my wife.) Since they had one readily available, I tried on a DSSD again to compare with SD43 side by side, and boy that thing is HUGE. The weight and the size of that watch makes its presence known on one's hand. I think I was walking lopsided to the mirror and back. If I ever get into a fist fight with that thing on, I know my left hook would be the one to drop the opponent. But DSSD has its own appeal for me: no cyclops, domed crystal, bragging rights of the depth rating giving one the comfort of knowing that it will continue to tick at least up to 12k ft if drops off of one's wrist into the ocean after one has had one too many drinks on one's Disney vacation cruise . If I had a smaller wrist, to me a SubC would be a very good alternative to SD43. If I owned a SubC and was happy with its size, I probably wouldn't consider SD43. If I want to go big to a 43mm watch, I will have to seriously look at my collection and see if DSSD would be a better choice to go with the rest of my watches (no cyclops and all.)

They both look pretty darn good. I tried on the DSSD recently and it was not for me. Really tall, really heavy. But man, did it look good!

Be careful with the short try on. I tried the SD43 at the dealer and thought, "wow" this thing is a big larger than I am used to but is surely not too large for me. I then bought one and quickly found that the weight and bulk made for a pretty heavy and uncomfortable watch to wear all day long. It didn't look to big but it sure didn't feel great (to me) on the wrist as a daily wear piece. I went back to SubC and am much happier in terms of wearability. Just my experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I am used to my 16610LB as a daily wear and find the LVc and BLNR to be a little heavier and less comfortable to wear, vs. my 5 digit LB. The discomfort you mention above is what I would worry about with this watch. I know for a fact that DSSD will be uncomfortable for me even as part of a rotation. SD43 less so, but still. Thanks for sharing your experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Conspiracy theories much, lol? I think others have also found it pretty heavy. I actually love a lot about the model and thought it looked great on but was uncomfortable. I was disappointed about the weight/comfort so am sharing my experience with others. Hope that's cool with you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

While the DSSD is admittedly very thick, you can easily pull both off.

Now I am not a fan of large watches, but you are one of the few who can can pull it off. I say go for the 43.

Thank you everyone for your compliments. I thought they looked too big on my wrist, but from what you all are saying perhaps 43 isn't too big for me. (Not considering the thickness for a minute. )
I think my wrist is about 7.5". I haven't measured it frankly. I will measure in a few and update. My wrist definitely is not flat and wide though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My 6-1/2 inch wrists can handle the SD43 but not the DSSD.
Believe me I tried...twice.... had both the DSSD and D-blue. I especially loved the LOOK of the D-blue. I currently have the SD43 which is the limit of my wrists for Rolex, but still a tad big but in a good way. |

They both look good on your wrist! You might just be too used to the LV and BLNR. I think if you had more time with it you would adjust to the size.

Both the SD43 and DSSD look great on your wrist!
They may use the same bezel (DSSD bezel is 43 mm across) so face-on, don't look a lot different, and in those close-up pics (as opposed from across a table or in a mirror) lookk even bigger Weight and thickness are the main complaints about the DSSD rather than wrist coverage it seems |

Saw the SD43 for the first time in a grey dealer last night (priced at £12k), I still think the DSSD is more for me, but it's a very nice piece overall.

thanks Danny. Funny part is, I showed this thread and pictures to my wife last night ( first step in warming her up to the idea of another watch), and she liked the DSSD look better than SD43!! Then she said " I like your BLNR better than these two ". Who knew?? She had never mentioned anything about my BLNR, and she is in love with it and thinks it is the most beautiful and better looking than these two. Given the BLNR would probably be on the chopping block if I decide to move forward with a SD43 ( or DSSD after responses in this thread and my wife's likings), I am in trouble. :) Oh boy, I was expecting everyone would come here and say 'yeah, forget about it, too big for you anyway' and make my decision easier. Forgot this was an enablers site! :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

With my DSSD and D-Blue I found they wore much more comfortable after you remove the divers extension - might be the same for SD43.

That is one thing I realized last night when thinking about it. DSSD was loose on my wrist even at its tightest position, so the weight shoes itself by the watch moving around. If I were to size it peoperly, probably the weight will be less noticeable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just received my SD 43 yesterday and find it perfect in every why, except the price. I have owned two DSSD and used them as a daily wearer for several years without issue. I have found with larger watches that appropriately adjusted, most work well. You do not get a real feel for it at the AD with the watch sliding around. My AD, who could not get me the SD 43, adjusted my new watch for me. I don't think that you can go wrong with either but my choice is the SD43.
