Do I need to wind my watch?

Hey folks I've got a Datejust and a Sub, I wear them in rotation, the DJ one day, the next day the Sub....neither have ever stopped and both keep good time as far as I'm concerned...The DJ gains about +1/ +2 each day and the Sub about +7.....this might seem a daft question should I manually wind either of them or only wind if either one stops?

It won't hurt to wind them up every now and then.

To start a stopped watch as both of your watches use the cal 3135 it needs 40 full crown turns clockwise only to fully wind. And even if worn it will do no harm whatsoever to give a full manual wind say once a week or so to keep movement at peak power-reserve.

You may actually find that the accuracy improves when you give that Sub a full wind.

Of course you don't need to wind your watch.

Just send it to me, and I promise to wind it once a week for you.........

Here's a test for you.
At the end of the day and after taking the watch off your wrist, give it a manual wind and check how many turns(if any) are required to bring it to full wind. You will feel the Main spring click as it slips inside the Spring barrel at full wind.

Then you will know for certain if your wearing habits are sufficient to keep it at or near full wind.
As a variation to the experiment, you could try the same exercise at a given time(lunch time for example), or even 3 PM that way you will get a better picture of what's actually going on with your watches

Remember the optimum accuracy is at the top end of the mainspring.

When stopped, I just do a few turns of the crown to get the second hand running and wear the watch to fully wind it with the rotor. I prefer using the rotor because that's how the watch was designed.

When rotating between two automatic watches, I don't manually wind as I don't find it necessary. I might do this once a month or less as I read it keeps everyhing lubricated but certainly not daily.

I only fully wind up with the crown on my hand wound pocket watch.

Only if it helps the accuracy so try it a few days and see.
