Help me, please! I don't know the model!
Hi guys!
I am sorry to use my first post to ask for help, but I would love to finally discover what is the model of my Patek Philippe! It belonged to my Grand papa, he must have bought in the 1950's or 60,s, I'm not sure. I don't have the box. Its made of rose gold (I guess) the band and the case. Also, I would like to know how much it's worthy, more or less. Please, I am not trying to sell the watch, I just want to have an estimative! Thanks very much! |

We don’t do estimates, that’s a service which specialist dealers provide.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and say it’s a fake. 1) 1st post/just joined – check 2) no box, no papers – check 3) heirloom/found in drawer – check 4) valuation request – check 5) out of focus/no photos – check Awaiting to be proven wrong, let’s see... |

As it stands, if it is the real deal (not convinced the bracelet is a Patek), then what your grandfather bought himself was a Calatrava Reference 96. You’ll find plenty of images online to compare it against and prices to give you an idea on what its value might be. |

Like PJ said only way to be sure is to open caseback, but just an impression would tell me that it looks real, and is old, go to any watchmaker, open caseback and send us pics, better yet go to a Patek AD if one is close to you, or second hand/pawn shop

Ok, thanks to all. Yesterday I manually winded (?) the watch and it started to move. It is amazing! God knows for how long he was stopped! I will open the case and post the pics soon. I deeply hope it is authentic! :-)

Based on what? Looks legit to me. Aftermarket bracelet, which was common with earlier Pateks. I would guess Ref 96 as well. Last edited by MILGAUSS88; 25 July 2017 at 02:08 PM.. Reason: ... |

My opinion on this watch is based based on my experience with Patek over the last 40 years. I have owned and currently own multiple Patek Philippe watches for the last 30 years and prior to that my father has owned multiple Patek Philippe. Pictures show a cheap unfinished watch. Obviously the only way to find out is to bring it to a watchmaker. But my opinion is that it's a fake. Read the book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and you understand what I'm talking about. ^^^Important advice. Never a good idea to try winding a watch of that age that's been sitting idle, tempting as it must be. It needs a proper servicing first to avoid any accidental damage to the mechanism that might result.

If the watch proves to be real (despite its admittedly suspect pretext), then I'd service and clean the head, add a quality strap, and source a vintage buckle.
If the bracelet's gold then you could scrap it and recover a significant portion of your cost. When all's said and done, you'll have a $7k-10k watch (rough estimate) and more importantly an excellent remembrance of your grandfather. Most would be envious. ![]() |

For the reference/model number...My guess is its a combination of 4 digits. Hope that helps.

Maybe it's the low resolution of these photos, or maybe it's my own inexperience with vintage Patek, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this as fake. The bracelet is clearly not of Patek design, but the watch itself seems like a legit 96.
Interested to see the watch opened, and the response from the naysayers then. |

My first reaction was fake, but the dial looks more genuine.

This is why I gave a range on my 'estimative'. Cover bases.

I believe the watch head is real. There is too much detail on the dial for it to be fake like the angled hour markers at the six o'clock sub dial.

I don't think the watch is fake. I maybe wrong but I'd go for ref:96 or depending on watch diameter, maybe 570. The bracelet is definitely not PP. This is only my opinion judging from the rather poor quality photographs.

That would be a more valuable watch, but iirc the 570 had a center sweep second hand unlike the OP's sub seconds

It would be nice if the OP's watch was the 570, but more likely to be the 96. |

Easy to differentiate 570 from 96
Ref 96 is smaller about 32mm across whereas the ref 570 is about 36mm J |
