Daytona 116519 Butchered Case
Here's an interesting proposition - if you had a chance to buy a (very) cheap 116519 with a butchered mid case, would you?
And what would the repair options be? 1. Have case replaced by RSC - no way could this be economical. 2. Get a SS case replacement from independent and sell old WG case as scrap (end up with a cheap but franken 116520). 3. ...? |

I would much prefer to purchase a better condition PM Daytona or new SS Daytona. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through and I don't know how many cases (no movement) there are floating around. Getting a replacement from RSC would likely cost you more than its worth unless it was of some sentimental value which it doesn't sound like from your description.

You could see if LAWW can weld it back to spec. They do some pretty astonishing work.

If I fancied a project I might, but PMs I like in mint or new condition only.

It's worth at least it's weight in gold right?? Also, I don't see why a skilled jeweler couldn't heat that lug up and hammer back to close enough shape and braze/weld from there?

if it can be laser welded and shaped back into form I don't think anyone would walk up and say, "man that lug has been laser welded and shaped like crap, oh nice oysterflex tho...." assuming you strap on an oysterflex of course. story and more pics pls.

You guys are only looking at the bent lug. It looks to me like the whole case is out of round. From the right side to the bottom of the case it looks a little wonky. Anything can be fixed but re-shaping a case would be a lot of work and you would not be guaranteed to get a proper water seal.
In my opinion the case is junk and only worth its weight for the gold content. If the dial and movement are good then maybe you have some donor parts but that's about it.

X2 The case back is separated from the case, meaning the screw back is toast and the case dimensions+threads Unfortunately I think your watch is beyond repair and would recommend buying a new one See if you can salvage whatever is still working: movement, dial etc to help fund a new one |

I'd definitely pay several hundred for it and up to a grand. On the flip side, I wouldn't pay $5K for it. Just not worth the hassle to me...finding bracelet, fixing case, assuming it would never be 100%. I can't justify in my head spending thousands on it. But that's just me talking from the armchair...
