Oysterflex set up on my SS Ceramic Daytona

I have another thread many of you have seen, discussing the possibility of mounting an oysterflex on a daytona with end links to provide the same look of the new WG Daytona on Oysterflex. I've been documenting my process in that thread, but I've received tons of questions about the set up. I finally got it sized correctly. I'm up and running and thought it'd be nice to start a new thread just showing the watch and answering any questions about the set up.

I am absolutely in love with this look, and my hope is that it will quench my thirst for that new white gold beauty.

I bought the end links from our own Smartyjones18 who is a total pleasure to work with. While I wait for the correct size OF piece, I used a leather strap with the end links and the fit was super snug and perfect. While I feel the fit with the end links and OF is good, it's not perfect. If you play with the strap you can see a little bit of play in the end link, but While it's on the wrist it doesn't move at all. Overall it's a non-issue for me. But wanted to mention it so others are aware if they try this.

As far as sourcing an OF bracelet, you're on your own. All I'll say is that I got lucky.

I've never understood the combination of the oyster Flex on PM. Rubber and gold just seem like an odd matchup. This on the other hand looks outstanding.

Best part about this set up is that I will ALWAYS have the choice. When you get the WG version (which I love) you can't get a bracelet option, even if you wanted to drop a ton of money on a WG bracelet. It won't fit.

I absolutely love the WG version, as well as the RG YM Doc shows below. So I'm happy it's offered in PM. However, I totally get what you're saying. Rubber and SS make more sense in a lot of ways. But nothing about this obsession really makes sense right

Yes there's no arguing they look good. Just seems like an odd matchup. Imagine your wife coming home with a pair of rubber and gold earrings. Even if they looked great you'd probably still wonder how that pairing came to be. It also seems like the big attraction to PM is the weight and removing the PM bracelet for a rubber strap seems to negate that point of the attraction. It would make more sense if the PM came with a bracelet AND the strap instead of just the strap. But I also agree that a lot of this doesn't make sense so I guess I should stop trying.

haha I'm totally with ya. A lot of good points.

As far as weight though, there are plenty of PM watches on leather. I can't imagine the weight difference between leather and rubber to be too different. It's all a matter of perspective i suppose.

I fell in love with the 116655 the first time I saw it. So I'm definitely not opposed to PM and rubber, but I am certainly all for SS and Rubber.

Just wondering, isn't the WG available on bracelet as well - see 116509? Same dial as 116519LN, just without the ceramic bezel.

Yes, exactly. No ceramic bezel. Beautiful watch. They both are but I favor the ceramic. Much more dynamic, versatile look IMO.

I can't for the life of me understand why Rolex don't offer the OF as a stand-alone offer. You know, how anyone can buy a multitude of rubber and leather straps from Omega, or Breitling, or AP, or... It's a stupid easy way to sell a ultra-high margin item.

OP: Can you please shed any light on how you "got lucky" with the OF? Is there a way to "game" the system and order one? Or does it require some sneaky insider to do it for you?

Without knowing how to acquire the OF band, then it's kind of a moot point for the rest of us.

I followed the first thread and thought it was cool. This really looks excellent! I don't really go for modified Rolexes, but as noted above, Rolex sells 'em this way. And if they approve PM Daytonas with OF, SS makes even more sense.

Rolex seems to be the king of making watches that can't be swapped out to modify their look. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd rather sell you a whole new watch than just a strap or bezel change.

So....I don't know anything about OF. When you coerce, cajole or otherwise entice someone to sell you one, does that include the clasp, or do you have to be swapping the clasp onto the strap and then back on the bracelet (eventually)?

I definitely get both sides. It's simply just not the brand approach that rolex is looking for. I don't think there's anything wrong with the way Omega does it, or even AP for example will let you mix and match. Rolex, it just all about preserving the original intended look of the watch.

That said, they can get a little overboard about their rules. RSC made me bring my DD40 into NYC to present it in person just to buy a 1.25 link. They made me spend an entire day to spend almost $800 on a small piece of metal, that was the only key to getting the right fit for the watch. I told them I'd send them pictures of the watch, the warranty card with my name on it, receipt, etc. No dice. They had to see the watch in person. That's just ridiculous. Anyway, side-rant over.

As for the OF. Like I said, you're on you're own. I simply have no advice on how to get it. I got lucky buying privately. I'd say just keep an eye on the classifieds they do pop up. Or you could go door to door at the ADs. Someone might be willing to hook you up.

Thanks so much! that's one thing I love about this set up. Aside from the end links, it's OEM. Most importantly nothing is permanent. And as you mentioned the "look" is now part of the daytona line up, so it's not a far departure as far as "mods" go.

It's funny, because while what you're saying is so true, they're cases and bracelets are so similar in size, shape and dimensions you can quite easily swap DJ bracelets with GMTs, GMTs with Daytonas, Submariners for GMTs, etc. For a company that tries very hard to keep you from mixnmatching, they never really set aside the R&D to create unique designs.

I had to use the original SS daytona clasp to make this work. Each side of the OF is priced separately as well. I supposed if you could somehow buy an additional clasp and add it to the order, but it still wouldn't technically be included.

It is of course included in the purchase of an original Oysterflex watch, i.e. RG YM, or WG Daytona on OF.
