Sounds ridiculous, but a result in the UK

Good morning from the UK.

After deciding I wanted a black Sub 3 months ago as a daily beater (as my DSSD-Blue is lovely but a bit bulky for everyday use), I rang around 4 ADs within a 150 mile radius of where I live and got on the lists. I was told 2 years by most them for a 116610LN. Got laughed at when discussing the LVc.

I know availability in the UK for SS sports models is a joke at the moment but 2 years sounded super silly for a standard SubC Date.

Anyway, to my delight, I got a call on Wednesday and one had arrived. I am now very pleased to announce my new incoming... not very exciting, but my new 116010LN. I’m happy.

For the geek in me, I’m delighted that the Ft are long as I prefer that look... TBH I probably still would’ve bought it even with small feet.

Looks great!
Not ridiculous, I put my name down for a BNLR on 30th August and got it 6 weeks! So maybe shortage of SS models is just hype, driven by grey market sellers.

The "ft" on the dial under "Submariner.
There have been different fonts and spacing over the years.

The font on dial under Submariner, over the years many fonts have change slightly, but with today's age and dial lupe checking these tiny dial variations are noticed by mainly the WIS.

My AD told me it would take 6months for them to get me and LVc but got the call within 5 weeks. I had no prior history with this AD. You are right though some ADs were very snobby and some plain rude when enquiring about the LVc or BLNR. From now on I will always use this AD as they treated me with respect and like a valued customer.

I put my name down at an AD in London about a year ago for a BLNR.

Got the call 5 weeks later...

Evidence of all of the hype Rolex has managed to fool most people into believing. SubC, BLNR, LVc all obtainable in significantly less time than the 1-2 years quoted. Not even close. Sometimes we have to remember Rolex is a business, sales staff are there to sell and its not everyday someone has $10k+ to drop on a watch

great watch!

I tried exactly the same a few months ago (manchester/liverpool, UK) and haven't heard a squeak ;( either I'm just unlucky or they didn't really bother adding me to a list I guess.

Congrats! If you can get a watch in weeks, assuming because you were lucky and two names above you passed, then the AD should be saying wait time is 6-9 months. Saying 2 years is overly dramatic, go to drama school for God's sake, these are not audition substitutes!

Yeah, but it's not Rolex quoting the times, and ADs have little interest in driving a customer away with a ridiculous wait time. Yes, it makes their product seem more exclusive, but it also makes that customer wander off to find a different AD with a shorter quoted wait time. They can sell the watch regardless, of course, but you don't build your customer base that way -- anyone willing to spend $8k on a watch is someone you want to keep around.

I think what's happening is simply that many people are on a dozen waitlists, but store clerks are just looking at the list, dividing the number of people by how often they get stock, and quoting a years-long wait. That also explains why you get very different wait times if you ask around even in the same area -- everyone is estimating a different proportion of sell-throughs from the list, even though they're all getting roughly the same number of watches to sell.

Strange times indeed with AD's giving two years waiting time for steel sub...oh well, congrats on yours!
