Apple comment
According to Apple, its smartwatch series has proved so popular that it has overtaken Rolex to become the world's most popular wristwear maker.
Thats a few pound of Apples in a very short time can this be true ? or is the apple watch a supplementary devise |

Someone can turn stats almost in any direction they want...what's defined as popular? What demographic, what time period, etc., etc.

What's so hard to believe? Apple sells them by the millions per quarter and Rolex likely sells less than a million per yr.

I had a popular girlfriend but she's not my Wife lol. I'm surprised Apple would make a statement like that and mention Rolex i cannot see the gain ? i doubt Apple will stand the test of time and become just another rung on the tech ladder.

Yes, you can compare anything like for example trains and greyhound buses. And you can also get statisticsof that in favour of any opinion. Apple makes wrist computers, Rolex makes watches.

discussed before but one is a luxury product and one is not. Apple watch is priced specifically to be disposable when the next model comes out and replaces it.
Hardly a fair comparison. When we start throwing our Rolex's in the bin after every new Basel release then we can say we are comparing equal products. "look a ceramic daytona, i guess i can throw the steel bezel one away now" Sounds weird doesn't it.

Apple comment
May well be true, however all I know is that someone wearing an apple watch next to me in a convenience store could wave his wrist at the pay point and walk away with a pint of milk and newspaper. I could however try the same with my BLNR and probably walk away with most of the shops stock, minus the watch of course :)

I really don’t get it. I find my iPhone borderline tolerable (though I’m swearing at it a lot asI try to type this) because it’s occaionally more useful than it is annoying, but I do not see the point of an Apple Watch. I cannot figure out what value it brings to users.

wearing an Apple watch makes a powerful statement: At one point in time, I had access to 400 dollars

Unnecessary gadgets. All these Apple watch wearers always have a much more capable iphone with them. This is the case with every single one I've ever seen. Gadget's for gadget's sake. No thanks.

The watch is a bigger outlay because the phone cost is baked into the monthly service bill. Most iphone users never plunked down $800 for their phone

I have the feeling it’s like comparing a bicycle with a Harley to be honest, or a bicycle and a Ferrari for those not into bikes, but a bicycle with a limited 2-3 year lifespan...

When cellphone first came out McKinsey Consulting (where a bunch of very smart people supposedly work at) concluded it's not something people need and will never take off.
Look how far the cellphone have came from a bulky talk only device to nowadays. It's easy to knock on AW today and say it's useless, and I agree, with today's functions, it's nothing to write home about, but you don't know what it can do 10 or 20 years down the line. Yeah it could flame out but then again it's also possible that eventually all the naysayers will have one, doesn't hurt to keep an open mind. |

The other thing is cellphones started as a luxury good as they cost around $4,000 when they first came out (adjusted for inflation that is around $10,000 in today's money) and moved mainstream as prices went down. The apple watch on the other hand started out mainstream already, and isn't going to evolve into a luxury good. Technology price curves generally move downward over time while luxury goods do not.

Yes today’s AW functions are limited but to completely write it off is too shortsighted. One day it may just have a function that you never thought you need. |
