Advice on VC Overseas Chrono

I have the opportunity to buy the new VC Overseas Chrono 5500v brand new for 40% off, but have to decide in the next 4 hours. This one:

http://www.vacheron-constantin.com/e...110a-b075.html

I know VCs take a bath in the open market and have always been looking at the 2nd gen ones used at around $12,000, but this discount (seems) to make it a tougher decision.

What does everyone think of this watch? I just don't know what to do...

Buy the watch not the deal. If you want one then get it. But don’t buy just because of the deal. Personally, I would not buy if someone put a short fuse on it like that.

Totally agree. I think what I was saying is that with the 30% increase to MSRP for the new one and lack of pre-owned marketplace, i never really considered it. New one MSRP is $29k which compared to $12k was just never a consideration. But with it now at $17.5k, its a consideration but i haven't done a ton of research and have a very short window to decide.

FYI - the reason for the deal (and the short trigger) is it is getting sent back to VC tomorrow as part of VC's supply buy-back, so dealer is really willing to discount since any sale is better than no-sale starting tomorrow.

I love the Overseas, 40% seems good. You still have to really like the watch, if you're on the fence...

I too love that watch but would have a tough time buying retail as you mention. 40% sounds good!

Fair enough. But if he cannot move it with that discount it should give you pause if you think you ever want to sell. I personally like the old model with the big date and would take that at a discount if I were in the VC market.

This. I waited until the new one came out before deciding, and personally prefer the big date version as the bracelet's taper is less severe than the new one, and I don't much care for the washer-type apparatus underneath the bezel, I much more like the old one's bezel-on-case look, no ring in between is needed imo. :)

Having said this, the new one is still a stunner, all boils down to personal preference.

Unfortunately, by the time I called back they had sold both of them :/

Appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice.

probably not a bad thing, gives you time to think further on Gen 2 Vs Gen3...And no doubt there will be another opportunity to pick up a gen 3 at a similar discount in the future...

If not the blue dial then I would buy the gen 2. The bracelet is different, the MC motif is more pronounced on it, and I like the guilloche patterning. 40% is very good off new, UK Bond St would not give 10% off, crazy pricing.

I personally hate having to make luxury purchase decisions on tilt. The pressure turns the purchase into something that I try to stay away from. 40% is a great deal if it is the watch that you want. Seems I got in here too late but my vote would've been to pull it if it is something you have been eyeing for a while. Either way, you know what they say about missed opportunities: when one door closes, another one opens. Good luck hunting!
