What year does the seller claim? Is the “Swiss Made” dial correct for the year or is it a service replacement? Is it just the pic or does the “2” at 10 and 11 look “hooked”? Is the bracelet SEL? Pics of the clasp?

The watch is genuine, as well as the insert - definitely not a "hooked 2" fake insert.
The SWISS MADE dial came into use around 1999 and was used until the end of production. If you have an earlier serial number than A or possibly P, then the dial is a service replacement.

Sure does to me.
And an intact hologram from pre 2002?? Those 2 points would raise concern with me. Adam

I would ask what the clasp code is. This way, you can see if the watch corresponds to the "alpha" (ex: D serial) serial. Lastly, even if the watch is real, how do you know if the seller did not just grab a picture off the net and sent it to your friend? Need to verify these points.

Do you have other pics of the face? The one you've posted make it look like the red 24 hr hand is on the bottom, and it should be between the hour and minute hand. That's a red flag.

Hopefully we'll get an update from the OP. If his friend bought it we'll have answers. If not I'd like to know what spooked him.

Totally a franken. Or something. OP went silent? I'm not an expert on hand stack, but the intact sticker seems kind of odd. While the insert has been said as reasonable, the flat 4 is less common? Looks a little long on top.
I agree with Gladiator on seeing a few other things that don't look right. It's crazy how they jump out at you when you finally see them. It's like finding Waldo. |

Seems these posts are happening more often lately....posts asking for "help", gets great pointers.... then the OP vanishes. Makes me wonder.

Guys. This is a very cheap fake. How can you guys not see this? The date font is completly wrong for the generation of 16710. The LEC is about 5X too big. The hand stack is wrong and I know, the fakes have the correct hand stack now, which shows you that this isnt even one of those. The biggest give away are the hands. The lack of the 3d effect and the big seconds pinion. This is an ETA hand stack. We are better than this. This is a cheap POS.

Just one more point. Look between the crystal and the bezel. You can see the wire holding in the bezel. Rolex doesn't use this on the GMT or the submariner. They use the crystal ring and a tension washer not a wire. You can very easily see the wire on this watch. FAKE

All I see is a (almost) factory fresh looking 5 digit GMT. Frankens are usually a banged up mish mash of parts. Pretty inconceiveable to me that anyone would mess around with a perfectly good GMT, or even parts from perfectly minty GMTs, retain the crispy finish, whack in a cheapo movement with incorrect hand stack, fart around with a new hologram + Intact ink model no. Not impossible but highly unlikely imo. The OP's disappearance is indeed strange. If this is an all out fake of Asian manufacture it goes down as the best I've seen and quite frightening!

Sad too say this is 100% fake. I see them all the time. I work on watches and they come across my desk for clients (Jewelry stores) they normally sport an ETA movement or a china version of an ETA which is what this hand stack is. They have gotten so good that they even have ones with correct hands stack. Stickers. I have about 6 down in my shop that I have taken off during cleaning of watches. I can put them on with a little glue. The insert isnt even good. Also look at the LEC on the bottom. When have you ever seen one that large? Never. It is all china. This isnt a Franklyn it is a replica. There are no rolex parts in this baby. This is off of a factory floor in China and worn a few times with the sticker. |

I don't see one here, just a reflection. There is a similar one at the top and all around the crystal. I'm familar with fakes, clones, super fakes and there is nothing obvious with this watch.

Handstack is wrong. Crown position is wrong. LEC is wrong. Date is wrong. It's not a Franken. It's a fake. A 200$ fake. |

If it is a fake I'd guess 200 bucks wouldn't buy you one.

Sorry guys forgot to update, my friend didn't end up buying the watch, this guy seems shady, would rather meet at night, conveniently when AD is closed and no shops are around to check the watch, he passed on it and now has a 16710 coke instead. Thanks everyone!

I thought the stack looked wrong when I saw the first pix but accepted John’s evaluation.
But now I am confused? The pix of the stack is not good so where do we go from here?

You think if someone wanted to sell a fake they could just post the picture of the watch here to get our comments to see how good or bad their fake watch is.
