Explorer II - Your opinion

I own a seadweller and a datejust but recentally noticed an Explorer II w/ white face and found it to be quite beautiful. I dont wear my seadweller much because I just love it so (dont want to beat it up too much) and I let my dad wear the datejust. I was looking for an everyday watch and this one might be it. I was wondering how you felt about this watch- I dont read much about it on here. Let me know if you know of a good place to get one. Thanks.

Had one, sold it a few days later as it didn't do anything for me. There's an EXPII appreciation thread floating around somewhere (of people who disagree with me )

The Exp II white dial is special because it's one of the few white among the sport models...

In my opinion, it comes off as rather plain. I was never excited by the II in it's title, too. Shouldn't watches be the ORIGINAL? This is especially the case since we are paying thousands. I'd get a submariner or YM if I had the option.

The Expy II is an exceptional watch in black or in white. The white is one of the few Rolex sport models of its ilk, and is probably more notable. I have a black dial Expy II and it is the incognito Rollie extraordinaire.

I own a black dial, pretty low on the totem pole in my rotation, it is a very stealthy watch and very comfortable to wear....it does wear a bit smaller than other 40mm watches IMO.

Its probably the most unappreciated Rolex sports watch out there and although part of me can see why when compared to others in the range, I and many others love it black or White!

One thing for sure and that's it a one of a kind

Wearing mine today after a over a week with the GMTIIc on the wrist and love the change.

If you can afford it as a 1st or additional watch then simply GO FOR IT

In my opinion the exp II is a lovely watch. Both the white and black face. I would prefer an exp II over a sub any day

The Explorer II would be my second most desirable watch after the GMT-Master II C, if only it had a triplock crown... the lack of which just makes the watch not look too good IMO.

That's a good question, since the GMT II and EX II are so similar a watch, same features and everything, why doesn't the EX have the triplock?

the previous iteration of the gmt 2 (1671*) came with a twinlock ... the 16570 and 16710 are very similar....

but the 16570 and 116710 are less similar....

I had a black dial. Its the only Rolex I really regret selling. Its is the most comfortable Rolex I have worn. Love the red 24 hour hand too. Much better than the green one on my GMT IIC.

Wanted white last spring then saw the SDD without the Cyclops. The black dial/white markers were stunning so I went black and removed the "bubble":

It wears rather small compared to my Omega sport watches but is quite comfortable and "stealthy" especially without the magnifier.

But white or black, I give the EXPII two .

I find my Explorer II to be a great watch. It's white dial, sleaker profile and lighter weight give it noticable contrast to my SD. I have had more people comment on it as opposed to my SD, believe it or not.

I've have never owned one, though I almost pulled the trigger on one a few months back at an AD. The black dial version is beautiful in the flesh, but the white dialed version is a bit plain (IMHO).
