Where does yourmrolex most often receive comments, besides at jewelry stores. ?

I did a search and couldn’t find this type of thread. For me, staff at restaurants most often recognize my rolexes and comment on them. Also, at airports a few times while walking. but mainly staff at restaurants notice even my explorer 1, or old air king, much less the deep blue.. I often wonder why, but am guessing it’s because they profile people that tip OR just appreciate watches. I certainly don’t think staff at restaurants are beneath anyone... many are students, part time, semi retired, or just like what they do. From IHOP to fine dining, I’ve had people comment on watches.. even hostesses seating people have said,,”nice watch...” to me. I neverr under any circumstances wear any watch for recognition, ever. It surprises me when people do recognize and comment. When wearing a reverso, I’ve never had anyone comment, even in a watch store, which seems odd. I guess there are times when people do recognize but don’t comment, I myself have complimented people wearing an explorer 2 white dial.. I’m always discrete about it.

I go to a lot of weddings. Aside from jewelry shops, weddings are the next hottest spot to discuss watches. Everyone is also usually in their finest.

I hardly ever get comments on my watch. The few I can remember were while getting fitted for a suit, the salesman at Nordstroms complimented me on my watch and at a restaurant bar with my wife the bartender complimented me on my watch.

When I someone compliments me on it I just say thank you unless they want to strike up a conversation about watches, then I'm all in.

I think restaurant people are watch lovers. I’ve deduced that , in my area for certain. I love talking watches with people too, but most don’t talk... just quickly compliment and move on.

Its random places and not often. The last time someone commented on a rolex was the checkout person at the hardware store.

Although last saturday morning I was at the local donut shop with my toddlers and I had a guy comment on my Pt AP ROO. He was wearing a RG RBII ROO and his friend was wearing a DSSD. That one caught me a little off guard.

No one comments on my watches.

Fine with me.

By me; every time I look at it on my wrist. And, oh yeah, it’s the only comment that counts.

It probably has to do with restaurant workers being attentive to details, and they notice everything. Comes as part of the job requirements.

The most knowledgeable civilian I have encountered was a girl who danced at a strip pub near my old Uni. We went back for drinks a few years ago and she knew all about APs and PPs too, made it even harder to turn down a private dance but I managed as I was broke from buying the expensive watch.

Starbucks. Several of the baristas are aspiring watch people but can’t pony up for a Rolex yet. I let them take turns wearing my 16710 BLRO.

Really?!?! Just in for a cup of coffee and you pass around a $7,000 watch to give a few people behind the counter the thrill of wearing a Rolex? How about test drives in your M3?

I’ve been going to this Starbucks for years and I know all the baristas. And the watch is coffee-proof.
I wouldn’t hand my GMT2 to some stranger on the street. Especially if he looked like he could run fast. But I’m pretty casual about my watches.

Just once at work that I recall. I was wearing my Coke GMT. What is interesting is that the person who noticed showed me his Pepsi, noting he picked his up from DavidSW - who I just so happened to buy my GMT from. Small world, as they say.

In NYC years ago a mugger accosted me and said nice watch. It was a Sub. I told him it was fake, so he took my cash and let me keep the watch.

Ok, I made that up but it could happen.

Salespeople or those who work for tips will often use visual cues to strike a conversation. I use it with my clients to get them onto a subject of mutual interests. If they don’t like watches, a thanks is about as far as that tactic goes. I also get some great geek outs. Those are the moments I live for.

On the other side of the table. I’ve had a few attempted gold diggers; but usually only fellow WIS will say anything. Majority of comments come while working; but again those are slim to none after 3 years.
