Incoming Agony

Made a purchase last Sunday, it got packaged up on Monday and went out on Tuesday. Tracking shows it arriving tomorrow.

Oh well, a teaser nonetheless...

Something similar happened to me last year when I bought an insert from a TRF member. Shipping from New York to Montreal. The package went accross the US to CA, crossed into Canada into BC, then went all the way down to Quebec through Canada, using USPS. I got the package finally but was very worried for about 7 days.

The seller is prob almost as upset as you - I'm sure he wants it to arrive so that you're satisfied and the transaction is complete.

Congrats! Love the bark DD. I'm guessing that it's a 18078 with president bracelet.

Don't fret too much about USPS registered mail tracking as it's never really accurate. Their delivery estimate is always too early and a delayed status is very normal. I've always found the actual delivery date to be a few days to a week later than what is initially indicated.

Since the watch is in USPS purgatory (I was assured by a rep that registered packages are kept under lock and key), might as well post a photo of the thing so you all can enjoy it as much as I have so far...

Still not sure I can pull off gold (especially in my stuffy office), but it'll be a weekend watch for sure, when I'm not working on the cars. I'd feel a bit bad banging up this time capsule.

On another note, finally got a scan showing the watch in Denver as of last night!

I wear my 18078 whenever and wherever! Formal or casual, if i feel like it, it goes on my wrist. Some people do notice but so what?

Good point. I'm sure I'll get over it. I've only got one question on my D-Blue: What kind of watch is that?

By the way, that Blue 18078 is stunning! I considered blue, black, white, silver and champagne/gold. I already have black in my 16600, blue in my 116660 and silver in my 79160. I was down to white or a gold tone dial, and wanted some contrast.

Oh, and perhaps I broke the rules of the vintage section. The watch model is the 18248, circa 1990. I didn't think the general section would have the appreciation for the bark.

Arrived!

I was too excited to set the time before trying it on and snapping a pic. Rare that a piece arrives better than as described, but this is just that. Found out there was an extra link in the bracelet vs. the desription (score!) and that it was serviced at the end of 2015.

I love the bark finish, really amazing looking watch.

I had a similar experience with USPS registered mail with my wife's engagement ring, it was a very stressful few days to say the least.

Ok folks, need some URGENT advice. I had a closer inspection of the watch yesterday. It still has a case sticker on the back, and in just the right light I can make out 18238. I pop off the bracelet, and sure enough, it's an 18238. I was searching for a white dial 18248. The seller was apologetic and offered a full refund right away. He explained that he simply never noticed and had bought the watch like this from Paul Duggan years ago (apparently a well known dealer), and from the seller's reviews and history, I entirely believe him.

So here's the question: Should this matter all that much? The watch has the exact look and in the condition I've been searching for for well over a year. If I ever come to sell, would that be a sticking point? I'm torn on the importance of a single case digit that only denotes a different bezel. However, the bark bezel and bracelet were obviously swapped over at some point. I see a "U1" on the clasp which I believe is around 1997. I believe the watch is a 1990. Bracelet is pristine, as is the bezel. Also, I so rarely come across this dial. Truly torn on what to do. If it were an old Sub with a newer Oyster bracelet I don't think many would bat an eye; in fact they might see it as a improvement.

What would you do in my shoes?
