talk about impulsive, I just bought it

Crazy thing JUST happened. I just got a call from a AD, and before I knew it, I just bought the white SS SkyDweller. It all happened so quick, but when I was in Chicago 2 weeks ago, I found my business partner a D-blue that he wanted after he saw mine. A local AD had just received one the night before, and just by chance, I was there in the am , so we bought it. In talking to the gal I mentioned if she gets a white SS Skydweller in, I MAY be interested. Thinking zero chance of that, and more or less just talking to talk to her, she called this AM, and its on the way to me already. CRAZY.
Was not really wanting another watch, and I will see it for the first time in person when it gets here Friday. I hope its as good and outstanding as you all say, cause I own it now.
I guess its all timing, as this type of thing happened with my SD43 about 6 months ago at another AD 2000 miles away from this one

It's been a while since the last incoming for a Sky D. Congratulations!! I love all the dials and the white I believe will be a bit of a sleeper classic!!! I believe yours is the 51st Rolesor received!!! FWIW, I'm a former Tucsonan!!!

A $14,000 cash impulse buy.

I'm constantly astounded at the money being dropped casually by folks here. I don't mean anything is wrong with that. It is just that it took me years to get to a place where I could afford my one and only Rolex and it is wild to read about someone just walking into a store and deciding on a whim to drop 14,000 dollars cash on a piece of jewelry.

God bless you, sir. I hope you never forget how truly blessed you are.

Good for you!

I got the same calls few weeks ago for the watch and was later told they cannot sell it to me. I was not happy.
Do you mind telling which dealer you got it from?

Wait till you start noticing the "double incomings!" Yes, people on this forum buy watches like others buy appetizers.

I think he’s taking advantage of a good short term investment as white dial sky dwellers are selling for $18-19,000 in the grey market. DavidSW has two in fact. If he is “only” paying $14,000 then he can likely turn a quick small profit on resale if he doesn’t like it.

turn out white dial is not as easy to sell. There are a few on the forum asking under $17000 and still not sold. Grey dealers aren't paying much more than sticker either, even less if the stickers are removed.

I was looking at the new DJ 41 (the sky dwellers poor cousin) and agree about the white dial. Still, I don’t think he will lose a dime on resale.

This is accurate. Look at Chrono24, Watchrecon, and the TRF classifieds, and you’ll see plenty of White dialed Sky Ds. I’ve been watching them for the last four months, and they simply don’t sell as fast, and often don’t sell at all for much over the MSRP. Many wont pay much over MSRP for the white, as its simply not that popular in comparison to the blue. Anything over $16k for the white isn’t selling and is simply too high, which is why there’s so many around. I think it will remain difficult to get a blue in 2018, but not black or white—especially white. I think the grey market inflated prices for white will bottom out pretty soon in 2018.

Well, we are on a Rolex forum....money is always relative. Some guys blow 14k gambling, drinking, etc. Some guys buy themselves a really nice watch that will last for years.

Congrats! Looking forward to wrist shots. The Sky-Dweller is definitely special having the annual calendar and GMT function. I don't understand why Rolex prices it over $4k less than the Yachtmaster II when the Sky-D has Rolex's most complicated movement (in current production) with three complications. Sure in SS it's like a larger DJ41 but still.

Bottom line is when I get this watch on Friday, and it absolutely does not push all the buttons, I will not keep it. I thought I had to make a very quick decision, and I did.
And to date, this is by far the most expensive Rolex I have bought, so if it does not scream at me to keep, there is a very good chance someone on this forum will get a smoking watch.

Rightly said. If you didn’t like it chances are someone in this form would. You only may lose whatever you paid for tax

OK...the point of this thread is to congratulate the OP on getting a new watch. I fear our discussions are getting away from that.

OP: congrats on the new watch.

Love the white...can't wait to see the pics!
