Has the 5711 market topped out?

A few months ago any 5711 was going quickly from the uk Grey's at prices increasingly, more and more over retail

Now, in the shopping frenzy season, I'm wondering if they're still hanging about with the usual uk greys etc because the prices are just too high now

£32750 for a £19000 (new rrp) blue ...
£27500 for a white...

£14,000 over retail!!! Wow...

Yes it is getting a bit crazy and has been over the last few months. The 5167 asking price has also been going up steeply almost in weekly increments. Asking price is one thing but the price sold at is another.

What is for sure though is the 5711/5712/5167 steel versions are selling above retail comfortably and appear to have long and closed waitlists in the UK.

Cheers
Anuj

I often look at Chronext which is like watching an equity screen with the fluctuating Euro prices, but the 5711 appears to be stabilising at £32K, while others are climbing daily.

i think its near the top, but i also dont think a pullback is due either. I agree, other models are catching up though.

I'm an owner and I really think that's a comedy price.
That's £4k away from the list of the 5711R.... Which is on another planet of beauty...

True, but that is moving up steadily too, now to £43K.

I don't think many of these watches will pullback much either, dealers are used to these margins now and will be very reluctant to drop them. They raise fast and reduce slow. I think the many hoping the Rolexes next year are going to fall back in price if supply rises are going to be waiting a long time, like for an insurance pay out, for dealers to really lower prices again.

The blue seemed to be at 29,950 for ages but now it’s in the 32’s - that said are they acutually selling at that price or is this the new ‘we’ll give it a go at this price’ tag?

its still selling higher even if its not selling at the asking price as i assume the offer they would accept under asking is probably the same percent range in both old (30k) and new (32k) prices. If you made and offer based on last years prices it would now be a lowball and rejected.

Visited AD in CH yesterday and they stopped taking waitlist orders for all Nautilus models. Typical response to all walk-ins but if I really want one, is not hard

Is that an increase? I think retail in usd is 51.5, which is about the same with the fx.

still cheaper than US pricing though (paying in USD) as US retail doesnt include tax. But yes, its stings in GBP.

I tried to post a thread on this but it doesn't seem to want to let me but I have a shot at grabbing a authorized dealer 5711/1R Rose Gold.. I love the brown dial... anyone have any thoughts on going gold? It has a nice heft to it, and isn't as loud as say a Rolex in gold...

Would this watch take a bath on the resale end later down the line?

Never sure about what the future holds, but it’s flat out gorgeous. If it’s within your budget, buy it, wear it, and enjoy it.

I've said this elsewhere, but I'd expect the gold to rise with the steel. For me, realizing I could get all gold at 48 new with my name on it, or pay 40 for steel second hand, it made sense to go gold - plus I preferred the look.

I called the dealer and put a $15000 deposit...

My take is like this... for me to be able to get any 5711 this easily, as it was pure luck as he is in a small market and happen to just get one 2 days ago with nobody on a wait list seems like a no brainer... but while I am not worried about "investment" potential as much, I am still going to be spending $51K on a watch and would hate to have it dive in value.. That said, I am a believe that gold prices will steadily rise overtime (many market fundamentals to back that up), and the fad of no-gold for mens watches will also slowly die... Lastly, to be honest, this watch is absolutely stunning in person... pictures don't do it justice.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a single Nautilus model that has ever been made (gold or otherwise) that has taken a nose dive in price.. even AP experienced this with their variants of the RO, but not Patek.

When I bought mine at a good discount, I was expecting to take a 15-20% loss if I ever sold as that was standard on gold pieces a couple of years ago, but everything has changed in the last year and now I would expect the Gold versions of popular SS to hold value well and even rise. I have also seen the value of my gold Subc rise £2K in the last year, another I would have expected to sell at a loss but now I am actually in profit 3 years on.

5711R, 5168G, 5524G are all pretty safe bets in PM not to lose your shirt if you sell. I might be overlooking some but to me thats my top 3 for value retention.

I imagine the two RG Aquanauts will also benefit from their popular SS brothers but not to the same extent.

Perhaps Basel will have some really great new stuff and people can forget about the 5711 for a while. One can only hope.

I hate when a brand becomes all about one watch. Same with AP and the RO / ROO. It’s all getting rather dreary TBH. Maybe we should have a separate Nautilus subforum.

Signed, another Nautilus owner.

yes, this is what happened when PP decided to cut down on steel watch production. it just had the opposite effect. the only solution now is to ramp up the 5711A production reasonably or to discontinue the model - which i believe they won't do.

Listening to Mr. Stern is like listening to an NFL head coach in the presser. All coach talk. He may say he wants to move away from the nautilus but his actions lead me to believe he wanted a rolex daytona hype train and he got one.

I also think above all else demand is through the roof right now for nautilus, I know it was always big in europe and asia but practically a pop icon here in the states for the first time.
