Hopefully Rolex is watching
AP just released a 42mm steel chrono w ceramic bezel at 2018 SIHH
AP listened to its base. 44mm was too big for many. Perhaps Rolex will release a 42mm Daytona Lots of Rolexes base think 40mm(38.5) is too small |

The current Daytona is too small, hardly 40mm. very noticeable at an AD. Pics here are deceiving. |

7 year waiting lists. 70% mark up on the grey market. They could charge double and would still sell out. I’m not sure Rolex have any incentive to make drastic changes to it.

Perhaps But an AP 42mm chrono w ceramic bezel wipes the floor with the Daytona just saying I know where my chrono $$ gos I badly want to spend it on a Rolex chrono but they dont make a size I like. I had to sell my 116520 due to its size. I was tricked. |

I’m not saying you’re wrong. Personally I don’t really get the Daytona. But you say Rolex should listen to their base. I’m saying they’re much more likely to follow the money. And there’s a hell of a lot of money waiting to be dropped on the SS Daytona just the way it is.

Maybe the Daytona needs to be 60mm so that it can be as popular as Diesel. |

Just the Daytona. AP lies about diameter? No tricks. if anything they wear bigger. A 39mm AP Royal Oak thin wears and IS bigger than a Rolex 40mm Daytona Its ok to offer a 42mm 'option'. Takes nothing away from existing model. Rolex does it with most other models. |

I sold my 116520 because it was too small. Oddly though I’m very happy with my 116500. If you haven’t tried one on and you can you should. Call me crazy but it looks and feels bigger. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You are oddly obsessed with the Daytona. Didn’t you post that the Speedy was the only chronograph with real history and not based on hype? Anyhow, go get the AP or the Speedy or whatever you’d like. Rolex will be just fine, and the Daytona will continue to be in demand.

Yeah, I’m sure ADs are struggling to sell Daytonas as it is. For someone who doesn’t like Daytonas, you sure do post a lot about them. Sour grapes? Anyhoo, enjoy that Speedy.

I said 42mm Daytona would be fire. Guaranteed. Sour grapes? I sold my Daytona. I can get a ceramic whenever I want?? 38.5mm Daytona is too small for me. Rolex forces me to look elsewhere. |

Then go out and get something. Shopping for a new AP chrono would be a hell of a lot more fun than complaining about a watch you don’t like, no? Look forward to the incoming thread.

Unless maybe your wrist is over 8” or something, it’s not too small for you.

Is the current Daytona not already through the roof? Fwiw, I would not buy it at 42mm. That would be too big for what I like. I am a big fan of it just the way it is.

I said 42mm Daytona sales would go through the roof. No ones saying 40mm is a flawed product. A 42mm option brings back many who want a chrono from Rolex but not @ 40mm(38.5) |

Rolex is a master and long term player. When/if they change, it would be well thought out. Much like the slick move they did with the SubC. They gave you a bigger looking Sub without making it look bigger.

The Daytona is the single most sought after watch in Rolex's line up with enough pent up demand to last for literally years. I'd say it is already 'on fire' and why would Rolex want to change that? The bigger is better bandwagon is dying off. Thankfully.

I sure hope they don't, as 40mm is perfect. I'm 6'5" and wouldn't want an extra fraction of a millimeter in size. The 116520 does wear a little smaller than ceramic version (on me anyway).

Why do 40mm Daytona buyers feel so threatened by a 42mm 'option'? Seriously? |

The typical production creation lifecycle of a Swiss watch that encompasses designing , R & D averages about 36 months. The exception are prototypes watches which can debut much earlier. Did you know that Omega's first fully ceramic Speedmaster DSOTM was already a design concept in 2009 but Omega wasn't sure when to release the model and the decision was only made 4 years later?
That means if a new Rolex watch makes its debut in Baselworld 2018, the design itself was probably based on what the consumers felt strongly about and desired from Rolex (and the watch industry) back in 2015. In other words, if the Rolex marketing team in Geneva is indeed reading your thread right now, any changes in the dimensions of the Daytona will only be seen in Baselworld 2021 Ya'know what I'm sayin.... |
