Bold Basel World Prediction
I'm not advocating for this, simply predicting....With the new Date-Just 41 being (as I understand it) 39.5mm, I could absolutely see Rolex discontinuing the classic Date-Just 36. I feel like the the DJ41 splits the difference betwen the DJ2 and the classic DJ36.
I think 39.5 is a perfect modern size. Seems like 34 to 36mm is squarely in the "too big for (most) women and too small for (most) men" camp. Although the DJ is a classic, they did move the Explorer from 36 to 39. Thoughts? |

Highly doubtful, the DJ's have and will continue to be great sellers IMO
My wife wears a dj36 and it looks great on her... and she has tiny wrists. Every link out and clasp to the smallest setting.

No, Rolex have no problem with labelling a watch inaccurately of its true size, so think they have no care if we think its more like a 39mm.

The professional line has abandoned 36mm and below, but I really don't see that happening in the dressier line.
Besides, 39.5mm is too close to 41mm to really distinguish the two. Of course, anything is possible.

There's a lot of people who prefer the 36 over the 41.

I don't think so, especially that 36 mm is becoming very popular among women.

The 36mm is a highly requested model. I think der DJ model line will continue as it is.

36mm is the classic wrist watch size. Even the very first Submariner was 37.5mm because of the thick bezel. Big and heavy watches may be preferred by many, but I personally find 36mm the sweet spot for comfort, legibility and style. And 36mm is also gender neutral (even though my wife loves her 28mm Datejust and finds my 36mm Explorer too big). Cheers!

I own both 36 & 41mm Datejusts and prefer the 36mm. Datejust is a classic Rolex watch and the 36mm is a classic size. I don't see the 36mm Datejust being discontinued in favor of the 41mm Datejust.

Not going to happen. 36mm is probably there most iconic size.

No disrespect, Mike, but this is the worst prediction I've ever seen on TRF.
Rolex would shut the doors before they disco the DJ36. Never. Gonna. Happen.

What is Rolex's biggest market?
America? No Europe? No Asia? Yes! 36mm is the most popular size in Asian countries. Why would Rolex alienate their biggest end user by stopping production of the 36mm references? Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

I am currently entertaining a DJ36 purchase.
Every other watch that I own is 40mm or larger. I need a serious dress watch and a 36mm dj fits the bill perfectly. |

I hope this doesn't happen, the 36 sits nicely on my wrist.

36 still looks better than the 41. Perfect proportions. 41 bezel is too big, disproportionate, & a bit silly to me. Same with DD36 vs DD40.

I'd venture that this is age related, if you bought your first "nice" watch when 36 was the style, you like 36, same with people who prefer 4 or 5 digit references to the 6. basically whatever was current when you started to like watches, is what is "normal" for you and you prefer. obviously, people at the extreme of wrist size will favour either larger or smaller sized watched but for people with wrists between 6.25-7.25inch wrists, I'd bet my theory holds true.
