UK professional shortage due to continue

In light of people's speculation here and elsewhere, I thought I'd share this from my contact with the rolex UK boutique I frequent in London:

.................................................. ...

...... Personal chat removed..... So if I were to go by the list it would be a very very long time. I am trying my best for all my valued clients to be able to get one well before that time....(The order of years).....Thus there isn’t a particular order or date I can give you for your watch!

Also Rolex have been asking for 10 names at a time of clients who are on our deposit list. From those names they check any previous sales they have made/how often they purchase a stainless steel professional model. There have been many that have ended up in the pre-owned market, along with the new Sky Dwellers/ SeaDwellers and GMTs. Usually not from our store because we manage our list the way we do. But it just means that Rolex are extra weary when sending out stock. So it delays us as much as it delays you.

Sorry it wasn’t the best news. Hope to have something for you this year from Basel.

.................................................. ......

Another UK dealer I've spent a lot of time and money with. Sent this:

.................................................. ...........

.......been informed by our head office that the professional models will now be coming through at a slower rate than we have previously enjoyed, I will contact you as soon as I get any more information........

.................................................. ..............

Forum users do ask for emails/evidence. But aside from disclosing my own or a contacts details unfairly to the world, this really is about as much cut and paste as I can do I'm afraid....

Hope it helps paint a picture though.

Happy hunting, and good luck enduring the long wait times ahead....

I get this completely. Two AD’s I know fairly well have said the same, one as much as 40% less. Someone who works for Rolex UK, without saying for definite, implied the same to me at a Rolex event last summer.

Strange times ahead for SS models.

London will no doubt be difficult given the size of population and generally wealth. I have however been informed by 2 northern dealers that I should expect my sub date in 5 to 6 months all being well.

Not surprised, when they didn't restock us after the price rise in '16 I knew this was a systemic issue and it has now spread globally, and I'm sure low supply will continue throughout '18. Many sources have mentioned it now and Rolex have never denied it.

Only this supports the reason why Rolex would indicate supply will actually be lower this year, as opposed to just feeling lower because supply stays the same but still cannot match predicted continuing high demand.

Thanks for sharing as much as you can it's much appreciated.......I'm struggling to imagine a slower rate than we have previously "enjoyed" but I'm sure in a years time we will have fond memories of the good old days of 2017. My local AD had no SS or Bi-metal sports references in the window today, not even an Explorer.

What difference is Basel going to make if they can't get it for us?

During a quick chat at an AD a couple of days ago I mentioned the cutting back on production of SS models and the sales guy nodded and smiled, and said “yes I know”.

He didn’t seem phased or surprised, it was more of a knowing acknowledgment of my comment.

I personally believe there is at least some element of truth in all this and for what the reason is behind it I have no real clue. It’s all very odd but I’m sure some spurious rumours have grown up on the back of it.

Crazy times for Rolex lovers.

Let me guess.

From evaluating threads on TRF.

And I am not very clever.

Supply of Rolex watches around the world has been iffy for a while?

Hi all,

Brand new member- posted this in another thread, but may have more relevance / interest here.

I’ve been lurking around the forum and following this thread with interest as I recently started my search for my first Rolex (ND SUB 114060) after owning a number of other watches, and was really keen to gather as much information as I could prior to my purchase (pursuit!).

Unfortunately my search started properly just as rumours of shortages / production restrictions with the Professional (sports) SS lines started to bubble.
After much research and deliberating over the new vs SH route, and seeing the premiums being charged for grey / SH, I called a number of ADs to request being put on their waiting lists in the middle of January.
Of the 15 AD’s I called, none had any in stock unsurprisingly, however I was put on the waitlists for 12 of the 15 ADs I called (3 of the other’s lists were closed to new names for all professional models). I was advised to expect a wait anywhere from 3 months to 3 years depending on the AD I spoke to! With all this in mind, I’d resigned myself to a very long wait, and fully expected to not see a ND Sub for a few months minimum and probably not prior to the next price increase in the U.K. (whenever that may be)...

Then, two nights ago out of the blue, I received a call from an AD that had taken my details to say they had just received a ND Sub with their latest delivery, and was I still interested!
As you can imagine, I very quickly responded that YES I was still interested and picked my new watch up yesterday, no less than 2 weeks after ringing around to be added to wait lists!
Now, I may have just gotten very lucky, however hopefully this shows that even in the extremely restricted UK market at present, professional SS watches are trickling through to the ADs and can be secured without too much of a wait if you’re lucky.
Interestingly, the AD did say they too were seeing far fewer SS sports models through their doors at the moment, so I guess it’s a case of right place, right time, and possibly wanting a model with slightly smaller waiting lists than others.

Just thought I’d share to add to the conversation. Good luck to all those waiting....

Can I ask where? I live there and find it very difficult to get hold of them. Also if you don’t mind me asking what you paid and any discount. Thanks

No discount but they’re willing to discount everything else except steel sports watches

This is exactly what I did, trust me if there is one place on this planet that won't be suffering a shortage it's Dubai, and Rolex can't afford to starve the UAE of stock. I rang up an AD in Summer, said I was going to be Dubai in 3 weeks time, No deposit, watch was waiting for me when I arrived, apart from the Daytona I recon 4 weeks heads up is all they need to get whatever you want, BLNR, HULK, SD43, JC DSSD, you name it, Daytona different story that's the exception to the rule

Summer / Ramadan is probably the most perfect time to buy anything over here (cars included). Dealers generally do amazing discounts. I know Omega have typically done a deal where if you buy at list they will give you a voucher worth 50% of the purchase to use at any sister store (Rivoli I think). Alternatively it’s typically 18-20% off a single purchase. Now that stock is tricking through I’ll revisit the dealers but Rolex Dubai Mall were very dismissive to the point of being rude regarding any type of Sub availability. That may however all have changed recently now Rolex are shipping again.

Looks like Rolex are storing names of flippers maybe that will make it easier for genuine buyers to get their Watches sooner? Hope so, on a brighter note I put my name down in October for a sub date and got a call in December and have the watch so don’t give up trying.

I can also confirm the OP account because it is also identical to what l have been told by my boutique also in London, l have been on there list since early last year for a DSSD Blue and at the time l was number 12 on this list and towards the end of last year l had moved to number 5 and l have not moved since, when l spoke to them about this lack of stock coming in they told me that they used to receive on average 1 DSSD Blue a month now they are only receiving from Rolex 1 every 3-4 months now so times are hard, l would like to add that l have only have my name on one list and that could have been my biggest mistake last year.

I found a DSSD D-Blue in an airport duty free 2 weeks ago, I've been looking for one for a long time and every dealer I've called has told me the waiting list is closed, when I walked in to the duty free and asked the sales man if he had a DSSD D-Blue he said yes we have one piece.

At the beginning I thought he was confusing it with the regular DSSD so I asked him again is it the one with the D-Blue dial he said yes and went to get it for me.

I grabbed it immediately, I couldn't believe such a wanted piece was sitting in an airport duty free. I felt really lucky that day.
