got my first rolex today
it's also my first post here.
short version: it's my birthday this week, and the conversation with my wife went like this: me: i was actually thinking of buying a rolex i found. her: no. me: no? her: no, i'm going to buy it for you. happy birthday. long version: this is really more of an introduction of myself. it was only last year that i decided i wanted to start wearing a watch again, after some 20+ years. i had no idea what i liked, so i visited shops and spent hours looking online. i read some dumb article classifying watches into groups and i decided that i didn't like divers because they all looked the same (turns out they all looked like submariners, ha). over some months, learning my tastes along the way, i bought some decent but inexpensive automatics, and definitely did not want a Rolex. part was cost, part was growing up in steel mill country after the mills went bust and (to this day) maybe having a reaction against ostentatious displays of wealth. but something funny happened when i started reading about Rolex's history, and learned about the tool watches, and how during a time of a stronger middle class they were bought and worn by everyday people. and how Rolex did and still do make a really good watch. and that turned into a real appreciation. and hey, a bit of lurking here helped too. my wonderful wife has been supportive through this whole endeavor. we were traveling in Portugal recently, and every time she asked me what time it was back home, i thought, "how much easier would this be if i had a dual timezone watch?" so today, with absurd amounts of input from me, i came home with my first rolex, a lovely polar 16570. it's a Z-series with the 3186. and so far it's completely awesome. |

BTW, I‘ll tell you right now, that imho the one watch, which people regret letting go the most, seems to be the EXP II. So don‘t you ever think about it down the road |

What a great piece! Especially as it's one of the most "under the radar" Rolex watches out there. Enjoy it!

A few of these incomings lately. It’s a true beauty of a 5 digit watch. If they had this watch with the new updated bracelets, I’d be all over that! Not a fan of the new 42mm size.
