A Rolex is not an investment.
Buy what you like. |

its a better value retainer for sure. Its always the explanation i give too when talking to people who don't "get" spending that kind of money on watches. Its a smarter purchase than a new car. Still not an investment as there is no expectation for return, just a smaller loss.

I think 4- and 5-digit steel professional models might continue to appreciate in the next 5 years. But it’s not how I’d invest my money.

Perhaps you should try looking at other suitable investments with the same fervor that you continue to ask this question.
Watches are not an investment, buy what you want to own and wear. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=584537

no offense to the OP but it is threads like this one (and they are becoming more and more numerous) that makes me think we are in a bubble.

Yes as well as those who try to perpetuate the myth that high end luxury jewelry is an "investment".

Reminds me of those vacation home seminars where they sell you the investment potential of buying a house in some resort town and then renting your property when you are not using it. I would ask, why are you selling it then? Just rent it yourself if its guaranteed money. |

Not an investment. Buy it if you want and can get one

While I hope my Rolex appreciates, I didn't buy it for that reason.

Everything I buy I consider an investment.
For a Rolex I'd get a Kermit, 5 digit Daytona or a DBlue. |

Yes indeed. When a habit of buying luxury jewelry goes from costing thousands per year to making thousands there is something wrong.

Invest in things people always need. Not watches.

Lol. I need to update that, I sold all of them....and most of them at a profit.
Buy right and you don't have to worry about losing money. I consider everything I spend money on to give me a certain return...whether it's guns, watches, cars, stocks, businesses, real estate, gold, etc. For some of them they will not return a financial profit, but if the enjoyment they provide outweighs the monetary loss then I consider it a good "investment". |

we need a TRF investment game, similar to the stock market game. We will all pick hypothetical investments, lets say 100K worth and some will pick 100K of watches (any watches they want that are actually obtainable) and some will pick actual investments. Meet back in a year and compare notes. I already know who won't win.

Selling it outside of the EU and you run into importation issues with paying duty etc. You can flip several models for profit. Anything with a significant wait list, but doing that over and over again probably won't work out as lots of other people flip watches like that on a small scale and they are all also on wait lists. Get a Patek 5711 if you can find one, that is where the money is. You can probably do it once. After that, with Patek many AD's refuse to sell the same watch to someone who has bought it previously these days. And they run your name before allocating the watch to you some places. In the long run, its not worth it IMO. |

I'll never understand people being proud about ripping off their fellow watch enthusiasts. Why buy a watch just to flip it, instead of letting that watch go to someone who actually wanted to wear it?

No one is ripping off nobody! Someone demands and another sells... the Batman in Europe is about 9.000 so this guy bought it cheaper than many... where is the problem? The retail world lives doing the same. Selling watches, staps, paintings... all better than selling weapons, like all goverments do... Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk |
