Risks of buying pre-owned PAM?
Appreciate any advice here from experienced PAM owners...
I've always bought new but now considering buying a pre-owned PAM 24 (2003 model I think) from a local dealer. It seems in good condition on the surface but I'm thinking what may have happened to it in the last 5 or so years since bought new - has it been dropped, serviced with non-genuine parts, etc... The asking price is US$4,900 vs. current new price of about $US6,300. I guess what I'm after is some reassurance that in general it's ok to buy a used PAM and it's worth buying used to save the 22% or so off new price...? Thanks, James ![]() |

I bought a preowned PAM 90 for 5500 vs 7400 new and have loved my decision every day. Make sure you check out the seller though. Good luck

If the item still in good condition, go for it.

I bought my PAM24 used also. It's my favorite watch. Just make sure it's a reputable dealer, you get a warranty, etc.

You can get better than $4900 from him I bet. I'd try at least another 10% off. Market is DOWN!!! Take advantage of it since you have the cash!
Does it have the triple boxes and all matching serial numbers? That is a good indicator!

There's always a little risk in buying used. I find that piece of mind is worth paying retail because I like knowing for sure each time I look at my wrist!

I try to never buy anything new. Used prices are sooo much better. Just make sure you're getting boxes and papers. You can also go to another dealer and have them check out the movement and everything for you.

unless you open the watch, and most owners wont do so, you 'll never know.......the replicas are so exact its unbelievable. i ve seen some pieces out of thailand that have fooled several dealers. use common sense and a little bit of faith along w/ luck. will get you want you want. i wish u the best.

Buy the seller, and get references. And if you are not 100% confident, walk away.

Thanks again guys.
With the advice I got here, I took the plunge and went with a dealer I've visisted a few times, who as been around for a long time and seem legit. I got the 183 - it's a "J" series so I think that's 2005 release (?) and seems in good condition. I guess with the 183 the fact that it has an open case back gives me a little more confidence as I can see some of what's going on inside... Anyway, love the watch and will post some pics soon. ![]() |
