Has your Rolex helped to make connections in life?

Just out of curiosity,
Has wearing a Rolex ever helped facilitate any connections you have made in life? Maybe you got a job with one, maybe you met a good friend with one (on the forums doesnt count), maybe you got a girlfriend with one :)...or boyfriend. I just wonder sometimes when I wear mine if someone will ever inquire about it and it'll directly help me in life... not that thats its purpose but I wonder.. I would love to hear some stories!

Very embarassing talking to a person who is actually wearing a fake...... I hate fakes.....

It's a good thing I have a deep love for my watches. That's why I keep buying them. It feels good to know that it doesn't REALLY matter what others think about your watches, that you have that inner feeling of love that feels so good, warm and all fuzzy inside.

Prior to joining TRF the only ones who gave a rip about my Rolexes was me, my wife (who loves hers as well) and my AD's I buy them from...........

It's been my experience that the vast majority of non-Rolex owners just don't get the whole Rolex "thing" period.

I've found a DD in YG gets you more attention in the VIP rooms at the strip club and gold diggers at the bar/club... Other than that no one really cares.

not yet. some of you guys are reading too far into it. You saying a watch is a bad reason for a friendship. Well yeah, but I think what the OP means is "did your watch kick it off" I have a large number of friends because they drove the same type of car as me, and id talk to them inthe parking lot. Been best friends for years now. Never would have met them if it wasnt for my car, but im sure i will meet people that will comment on my watch, and it will turn into a bigger conversation.

i agree with people that say a watch has nothing to do with a good relationship. that is true to an extent. yet, i have met many people because they like something i am wearing, i met my girlfriend at a bar because told her i liked her boots. boots have nothing to do with our relationship now. lol. but on a more philosophical note, i believe that all luxury items people wear because they want to feel more confident and/or project something about themselves to the world. someone earlier said a watch is a watch...if this is true why not wear a timex? the truth is certain products threw history and branding make us feel certain ways, and members of certain groups or a certain echelon of society. products do stratify the social order of things. this is neither bad nor good, its just the way it is. thats my 2 cents.

If you wear a luxury item like a Rolex to boost your self confidence, that's fine. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's all in your mind. Most people couldn't care less what watch you wear and don't even notice it unless you make a display of it. There are so many reasons to enjoy a watch like this that have nothing to do with any self-serving attempt at purchasing an elevated social status. Maybe I've worn Rolex watches too long, but I just don't buy into that philosophy. And yes, I also wear a Timex and a Casio and sometimes I prefer the way I look without anything at all.

You wait for a flight, and the guy next to you wears an old GMT with scratched acrylic. You ask and you find that its' his fathers and he knowns "nothing" about Rolex. Waiting and a 3 hours flight goes by easy, by talking about them, explaining.

A watch is not the "passport" for life, but gives the chance sometimes to talk to somebody that you wouldn't in the first place.

It attracts attention of the poeple in "the know", so you may learn a thing you didn't or extend to someting else of common interest, job, etc.

Hey there DC watchman, you know there is a white X on a red back ground in the top right of your windows based computer and a red dot in the upper left corner of apple... in stead of loosing your temper and attempting to find it again in the thread you lost it I believe, it to be better to exert prudence and click the X.
