BLNR vs Yacht-Master platinum dial

So I have been looking at the BLNR for a while now and know that to get one on the grey it will be a little over retail. I’m ok with that since I don’t want to wait on a list for a year. But I found out that for the around the same price (a shade under 10k) you can get a platinum dial yacht master. (9k for the blue and even cheaper for the platinum, but for the sake of this discussion let’s keep it the platinum dial) Which would you chose and why?

BLNR. It's one of the best watches on the market right now.

BLNR. GMT line is one of the best watches out there. YM don't talk to me at all.
Cheers.

I Would choose this one But little biased here.
It wears so comfy compared to my subC!

Btw you are showing the Rhodium dial but are talking about platinum.

Good luck making a decision!

Indeed. OP, you're showing a screen cap of the dark rhodium dial on the Y-M. This is the platinum dial, no longer in production:

You are correct and that’s a great looking watch. That’s exactly why I’m having a hard time choosing. Lol

Many say that BLNR is a better watch but don't give a reason.

First of all do you want GMT or timing bezel function? I find timing bezel more useful in everyday life but GMT more useful for work.

I flipped BLNR for YM blue dial. I like the slim profile and elegance of YM over BLNR, especially the slimmer lugs. YM has same profile as the popular Daytona whereas GMT is more blocky like a Sub. The GMT is more masculine imao.

I'm starting to regret the swap to YM due to the feeling (true or not true) that the platinum bezel is fragile or will get scratched easier than the ceramic with BLNR. I'm now getting a SD4K and probably selling YM.

I'd say go with the one that attracts you the most and fit your lifestyle and intended usage.

that YM might have the most beautiful blue dial of any watch on the market, and was the first Rolex that made go 'wow' several years ago.
I really wanted it, but avoided getting it as a daily watch precisely for the platinum bezel being more susceptible to scratching.

If I don't get a PM Daytona, my alternative plan is the get the RG YM..........so damn comfortable for a PM watch and beautiful in person.

I love my YM, it is a sporty, attractive piece. Although the GMT function would have been useful to me when I was younger and traveled more, the BLNR does nothing for me. I don't care for the steel can sports models.

Please charge your phone. Battery is running low. YM plat bezel is not fragile. Still looks decent after many years of daily use.

That particular YM does absolutely nothing for me (it's too boring), so the BLNR gets my vote.

I'd also get the PCL's brushed (unless you don't mind scratches over time).

First thing first: you’ll lose more money on the YM than the GMT if you were to resell it, unless you can get a better discount on the YM (and you should IMHO).

Faced with the same choice 3 years ago, I went for the YM platinum dial (not the rhodium dial shown in your pictures). My reasons were the platty was my grail since early 2000s (16622), the latest 116622 felt superb on the wrist and I wasn't a fan of the black and electric blue bezel of the BLNR. As a bonus, I luckily managed to get a 33% discount on a NOS YM with stickers from an Italian grey reseller (on chrono24) thanks to how unpopular the YM platinum dial had become. Sometimes you need to go against the market!

I like the GMT /24hrs function and recognize the fact that the GMT is far more iconic but only with a pepsi or coke bezel to me. Two different styles, the YM being a blend of elegant and sporty (a bi-directional bezel designed to track elapsed time between buoys in regattas makes it a toolwatch in my book), whereas the GMT is mainly geared towards being even more utilitarian and less dressy for lack of a better word.

I would have had a tougher choice had it been against the 126710 BLRO Pepsi which I'm planning on adding at some point in the future if the AD calls me (no rush, not a grail, not paying over retail). Ultimately as always I would have decided based on how it feels on the wrist.

Unless the deal is outstanding on the YM I would go with the BLNR. I find the watch more visually appealing and the resale is strong. I have owned a YM before and while I liked it, in the long run, I just went with the Submariner and got rid of the YM.

Is go BLNR. I don’t have anything against the YM. But I just favor the BLNR any day of the week.

Between those I would pick the BLNR. GMT function is worth more to me in my work and daily life as I am constantly calling / texting and traveling across multiple time zones for both work and family.

My YM blue dial is the most comfortable watch on bracelet that I’ve ever owned, period. The SS GMTIIC is probably a close second. I personally prefer the YM, but there is zero doubt the BLNR is more popular. It’s all personal preference. I prefer the GMTIIC in PM not SS. My YM and 16610 LV are my only SS Rolexes. I prefer the smoother case features on the SS YM. Also, the YM “wears” smaller IMHO. In true TRF tradition, I’ll have to recommend you get both!

I meant rhodium dial. Thanks for the correction. And what I meant is that I know the BLNR is the more popular watch but is it worth paying more then retail (about 1k) or is the newer platinum YM a better deal at the same price point? (Almost 2k off retail). Both being at about 10k in the grey market. At retail the BLNR is a no brainer to me. But I this scenario the watches seems much closer in my mind. Thanks for all the input.

Hmm, okay let met try help a little bit more.

Is it going to be your only watch? Or daily beater?
If Yes, then don’t buy the yacht master!

I tend to wear my SubC for that because the yacht master is more prone to scratches (so they say, I don’t have any though)

And because it’s more expensive it want to keep it longer “nice” if that makes any sense. (Sounds stupid if I write it, I think if it had a ceramic bezel I wouldn’t mind)

Also I love my YM but I do think the Rhodium dual only works when the sun is out. (And that’s not a lot in the Netherlands) if I wear it in the winter it doesn’t “work” in my opinion. I think the Batman will always work.

But if it’s not gonna be your beater or only watch, then buy it! I never regretted it, bought it in June 2016 just after the Basel release with a healthy discount! And when I wear it, it gives me a big smile. Really different than the Sub.

Also before the Rhodium dial I disliked the YM always, even found it one of the ugly Rolex’s. Funny how a dial and blue hands can change so much.

Though decision, one thing I do know is that I would never pay above retail! Paying so much for a blnr is something I wouldn’t do.

Thanks. And it would be my only watch. I have a datejust 41 jubilee with fluted bezel but I think as my daily it wears a little small so I want something with a little more wrist presence. I love the BLNR but paying 1k over retail even from a trusted seller on here makes it a little tough to swallow. I will be adding $2500-3000 on top of my watch as a trade In. So that’s my I haven’t ruled out the YM. Just don’t know how it would be as a one and only watch. Thanks for the input.

The rhodium dial YM would be the only YM I‘d consider.. but I‘d still go BLNR all the way! It‘s better for daily use in my opinion and from your posts, I gather that you do favour the GMT a bit. Even if you can only get the BLNR at a small premium, I‘d go that route. And who knows? If you call around a bit, you might even get lucky and get it a MSRP sooner than later.

I'd go with that rhodium YM, but I'm biased and already have an LN GMT. Might go BLNR if I did not.
