The In 'n Out VS Mcdonalds Fries Debate !!

Trying to settle this for colleagues at work - which do you prefer?

Mcdonalds or In 'n' Out fries? This is probably only applicable mostly to west coasters as there are no in and outs in other places. Please only vote if you had tried BOTH.

There’s no debate here.

In N Out has the superior burger, McDonald’s has the superior fries.

agree, as a kid my dad would get the family burgers from In N Out then swing by McDonalds for the fries. These days I just get the In N Out fries well done and they are much tastier.

That didn't take long....nothing else to see here.

However, In N Out fries cooked "light well" are really good. Their fries are normally undercooked and soggy.

All the good stuff! mixed carefully and lovingly in the right ratios for the perfect flavour and crispness, nothing at all to do with cost.

You know they say that if there was ever a nuclear war the only things that would survive would be the cockroaches and McDonald's fries.

I remember the old days when they cut them fresh in the store before they fried them in beef lard. They were great fries. But now, they get prepped at some distant factory and need to stay fresh until cooked.

Not being from the states I haven’t had the pleasure of In N Out. Curious if there are locations next to McDonlads, and if so, would you say it’s worth buying the burger at a in N Out and driving across the street for your McD’s fries

I do this here in Canada with McDonald’s fries and Harvey’s milkshakes

Simply ask McDonalds for fries with no salt. They’ll always be fresh

Here, let me restate it more towards Swatty’s liking:

To prevent getting not hot and/or soggy fries, simply order them sans salt. This will result in them frying a new batch, and you won’t get fries sitting under the heat lamp for 20-30 minutes.

You do realize the definition of ‘fresh’ is inclusive of ‘newly made’. My sentence obviously implied the cooking to be fresh, not the actual production of them

Compared to their burgers which can be pretty good, I've found the In N Out fries a big disappointment. They weren't bad right out of the bag, but once they started to cool a little, the flavor went away. I'm sure if I knew the right 'special' code, I'd like them more, but I'm really not looking to put in that kind of effort for a simple side order.

McDonald's for sure. Interestingly I found out you can ask in n out to make the fries crispier, but I found that it made them too close to chips

There is no debate. In-N-Out fries are possibly the worst fries I have ever eaten. I would rather eat microwaved frozen french fries. And "well done" fries are even worse. No amount of "animal style" sauce can make them better. McDonald's by a landslide. Not that I eat fast food all that much, but I would argue they are the best fast food fries out there.

Well if those are the only 2 choices, Mcdonalds for sure. But I think the best fries period are from Five Guys.

I'm with you. Five Guys burger and fries are better than Mcdo and In n Out - but that's just me.

We have a winner!!!!! Pulled a McDonalds fry out from under the seat of the truck today. Haven’t eaten McDonald’s in the truck in 3 months. It looked like a fresh one. That is bad.

Never been to In and Out or whatever it is. But the consensus is their fries are terrible.

You're not alone, TONS of people love the 5 guys fries though I'll never understand it. Peanut oil is the worst oil to use for fries, makes them soggy. Yes they taste good but have an awful smell.

In n out has the worst fries of any fast food, even worse than BK which are also bad.

McD's fries are really good.

There is a small chain here in the Northeast called Wild Willies, best burgers and best fries of them all. If anyone comes up this way and sees a Wild Willies you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least try them!

My guess is Wild Willie learned (or always knew) the secret that made McD’s the fry king of the world.

A detour down history lane for our millennial should be worthwhile...

McD’s ruled the fry world for almost 40 years. Then it all came crashing down on July 23, 1990 - do you Boomers remember where you were on that dreaded day?

I know where I was. Waiting in a McD’s drive-thru near my office at lunchtime. There and then, I learned with one bite that I had lost something worse than when new Coke came out in 1985.

Story: https://www.popsugar.com/food/McDona...story-43864417

For those who revel in fry trivia, and who have 40 minutes, this podcast will explain some of that food science...
