Rolex 16750 '80: your opinion.
Hi,
I'm Nicola and I'm from Roma. I'm looking for a vintage 16750. I found this GMT 16750, serial 627XXXX. I know with this pics are not enough to give an accurate opinion, but it's what I have right now. I hope you'll help me to know, first of all, if dial and hands are ok. I'd also like to know if that big scratch close to "GMT" on the dial makes the watch lose lot of value. Thanks a lot. |

I understand where you're coming from, but that's not the case for me. The added value of a watch simply because it was owned buy a person of note doesn't really appeal to me. Especially, if it's a watch in a condition that would turn me off from buying it in the first place.

big scratch going through text will hurt value. the dial itself looks genuine, along with the lume. the hands may have been color matched to match the lume (it looks surprisingly clean given how the rest of the lume aged).
personally, the dial looks quite worn to me and i would pass. if you're looking to hold on to this watch for awhile i would pay more for a cleaner dial. you'll regret trying to save a few dollars, esp if you need to resell it one day |

I would also like to see the part covered by the GMT hand, as there seems to be damage there as well.

There are better examples out there for sure. That dial is too rugged and likely indicates some deeper issue(s).

Looks like the crown guards have been polished but would need much better pics.

No
The condition of the dial is a non-starter for me. I would take a big pass on this one.

likely poor workmanship by a prior watchmaker. Its not circular so not done by loose / poorly fitted hands

So, is this 16750 so bad in your opinion?

What about that date wheel? Dial and or movement was probably dropped or damaged during a service.

I would pass too, Something is up with that date wheel. I 've never seen it in that shade, and numerals look a litttle off. My opinion.

The Lume on the dial is so brownish in color does it look baked to anyone?
