For a Submariner companion: GMT or Speedmaster?

Which one would you choose, and which configuration(s)?

Speedmaster without a doubt. Nothing wrong with two Rolex, but the look of the GMT and Sub are similar (oyster case and bracelet, rotating bezel, etc). The hesalite Speedy would give you a classic chonograph with a manual wound movement. I much prefer the diversity with those two than with the GMT.

Nothing beats a working man's chrono like a Speedmaster....timeless and truly iconic having a place in horological/non-horological history. That said if you're a regular traveling guy, the GMT would be the right choice if you need access to multiple timezones constantly.

Agree - if you travel a lot, might be worth it to swap for a GMT-LN/Speedy combo.

I started with the sub and went down the route of getting a Speedy. Held onto it for a few months but ultimately it just never grew on me. Ended up selling the Speedy and will be getting a BLNR instead.

My vote is for the WG GMT if you had your pick of the litter.

I bought a Moonwatch for all the reasons people mentioned, but never 'fell in love' with it. I think it might have been the manual wind with the small crown which ultimately made me flip it.

I have been dying to like the moonwatch, and perhaps on 2 occasions wanted to pull the trigger, but never felt the attraction that I should have. Believe me, I want to like it, and perhaps it will grow on me at some point, but not yet.

OP, GMT might be too close to Sub. How about Daytona (116520)?

The same. Great watch but the manual wind takes me off and ...... it's not a Rolex.... and I sold my navi, speed and other brands. Can't explain....

Sometimes I'm near to buy again a 3573, but I'm sure the watch will rest in the box.

Lol .. I just got a Speedy Pro myself ... The crown is definitely too small to be on a manual wind watch ...

NASA disagrees, and someone in Houston just binned your astronaut application. Rocket ships are no place for fumble fingers with all those switches and knobs and stuff.

Is this the ceramic or previous generation sub?

If ceramic, speedy without a doubt

If precious, arguments on the new ceramic gmt (LN,blnr,Chnr, etc) all could be made as it is both modern, blingy, versatile with a better clasp

Not a chrono guy so GMT for me. Tried Speedy's and Daytona's over the years and never bond with them. If you like the GMT function, an Exp II Polar may be a good option. Fixed bezel and a white dial is a nice set up to go with the all black of the Sub.

Daytona, either leather/gold or two tone 5 digit. Both are huge bang per buck references.

I travel a lot so the GMT for me. And among all the GMT I’d go for the Blnr, slightly ahead of the LN.

Speedmaster gets my vote. I have a GMT and I bought a Speedmaster as a companion. Great combo to switch on and off from.

Like other people have mentioned, the GMT and Sub are a little too similar.

Speemaster for sure. I didn't love this watch until I started wearing it on the Omega-supplied NATO strap. Frankly, I never cared for NATO's and I really didn't like the Omega bracelet, however, I always loved the size, Hesalite crystal, dial and manual movement, so I bought one. A sales guy at the local boutique recommended trying the NATO. I said "I don't think so - kind of think they look hokey". He was insistent that if I tried it, I'd like it. Well, he was bang on. I put it on, and haven't had the bracelet on since. The quality of the NATO is incredible. It's so comfortable. My Speedmaster and 16610 make a fantastic two watch rotation. My other watches don't see the light of day. That's my .02 cents. Good luck.
