Calatrava fight 5119, 5196, 5296, 5227

Hi friend
I am looking for a simple Calatrava for daily work in the office. I already have 5726, 5230G and 5205R. A basic Calatrava will help me simplify my day.
I am thinking about
1. 5119G I like hobnail bezel, white dial with Roman numerals and no date. But 36mm feels too small for me. My wrist is 6.5 inches
2. 5196G it’s just 1 mm bigger but I don’t like anything of it.
3. 5296G bigger with date and self winding. I don’t like ivory dial.
4. 5227G big one. The hinged back is very unique. But the price is close to Complications.
I really appreciate input and thoughts from you guys. Any pro or con. Love or hate are always welcome. Thank you so much.

I think the 5205 is great for office work with useful complication. Adding a simple calatrava might seem boring to you.
Did you consider a simple A Lange 1815? It's amazing in flesh. Good luck. Cheers.

Thank you for the input. I start to like 5205 more than 5230 for office work. I will check 1815 in the shop this weekend. Looking from the web looks great. Thanks again.

Dress watches historically have been time only and so the 5119/5196 are more classic watches. However a time/date watch like the 5296/5227 is more modern and more practical with the date and being an automatic watch.

It seems like you prefer the 5119 with the hobnail bezel, but are mainly concerned about the size. It has that classic look to it and is a great dress watch. It is a manual wind, so you would have to wind it daily.

The 5227 is a beautiful watch with a modern case design and the officer's case back. The watch can be purchased at a discount as with most Calatravas.

I would try to find a store that has the 5119 and 5227 and try them both and compare for yourself. They both wear quite differently and serve different purposes.

Of the choices you listed I'd take the 5227, but I have larger wrists and like the size a bit better. Might want to take a look at 5117 and 5127 as well. Best of luck

I have the 5119r, and I have a 7” wrist. I like the size for a dress watch; it fits comfortably under the cuff and is discreet the way a dress watch should be, IMO.

It isn’t very versatile, though. I wouldn’t wear it without a suit or tux. Love the elegance of the watch, though.

I would go for the 5119 because the hobnail bezel and manual movement adds two things you don't currently have in your collection. Also, while it's "only" 36mm, it wears large due to the thin bezel and large face. My wrist is larger than yours and it does not look at all too small on my wrist.

I would go 5119g of your choices, but if you can swing for the fences, I’d go for the 5196p.

Mine is yellow gold (J). I find the yellow and rose gold more interesting than the white gold. The white gold looks like stainless steel to the uninformed, but it has the cost of gold.

My favorite Calatrava is: 5153R and 6006G. 5153R for its classic design with the onion handle and the hunter back cover; 6006G for its dial design.

5196G in silver or sector dials can be found for pretty good prices. Both are a great value.

I finally saw the 5227 black dial and that would be my pick if I were to get a Calatrava.

Either of the above are just about the perfect dress watch IMHO

Not listed options, but for a basic Calatrava I would go either 5196P or 5296G Sector Dial.

Since you don't like all those choices you listed, why don't you consider the Lange Saxonia or 1815?

I really don’t understand your motivation here, given the watches that you do have. 5726 is a watch you can wear anywhere with anything and has a very useful complication in the annual calendar, so wearing it everyday seems simple enough for any life.

Why, again, are you motivated to buy a Calatrava (and do you want a date window or not)?

Make sure if you look at the 5296 again, to not just see it in one set of lighting. The dial changes from ivory, to metallic white to a bright white. It is the favorite dial of any watch I have owned. I had the same initial reaction that is was a blah ivory. Also the gold minute indices really pop.

As one previous comment said, while the 5119 is only 36mm, because of the thin bezel, the watch looks bigger.

5227 if new, if you want one that is pre-owned the 5127 (37 mm) is also a good choice.
