Autographed/Signed Case Back?

Anyone ever done it/had it done?

Assuming it’s possible, I’m going to try to get a certain celebrity (who also happens to be a WIS) to sign the case back of my Daytona or BLNR. I would then have the autograph laser etched to become permanent.

However, I don’t know whether a Sharpie will suffice on the 904L steel. Has anybody tried something similar to this?

Hopefully. I got him to sign a couple guitars on a few occasions so I’m thinking he will be willing to sign a Rolex or two.

I’m just not going to judge. I can be a fanboy at times when it comes to certain celebrities.

Would I have John Mayer sign my watch ... no, but I’d have Micheal Jordan sign my sneakers for instance.

I think at best you’d only get initials with a fat sharpie on a 1” surface. Why not have the box signed (or interior of the box signed)? Get a pic of the signing and call it a day.

Make sure he signed your warranty card too so the serial # match

I wouldn't want someone else's initials on my watch. Now if the watch had been worn by and belonged to said "star", that might be different.

This is kind of what I’m asking about. Alternatives to a fat Sharpie besides a fine Sharpie. I’ve heard that signings often use a certain type of permanent marker that isn’t a Sharpie and I don’t know what it is or if it works well with steel.

It will be during/at the end of a concert so carrying a box isn’t possible or practical.

If you don’t like Mayer or the idea, fine. This isn’t a poll about the popularity of Mayer on TRF or whether you would do it. I’m not asking about your watch(es). I’m asking about how I can do it. Moreover, case backs are replaceable. Minimal risk.

At any rate, to solve your problem...

How about finding a photograph of your idol’s signature?

Then, take it to an jeweler to “trace” onto the back of your watch - or get yourself an image of your celebrity’s signature - see below - and an engraving pen...then after a lot of practice, and maybe a spare case back or two- have a go...

It’s not that opinions aren’t wanted, it’s that I’m just asking if this sort of thing has been done. Not much is new under the sun so I thought given the fact that Rolex doesn’t use sapphire backs and customers often engrave, maybe this idea isn’t completely foreign.

Not trying to be dismissive of your opinion. I understand why a lot of people wouldn’t want John Mayer’s autograph on their watch. However, I fall into the other category. I’m just trying to get help in accomplishing that. An opinion on top of an idea to help solve the issue, fair game IMO.

But if a signature - like the one Mr Google found above - is authenticated...wouldn’t that be close enough?

I may have missed it...but if you possess an actual Mayer autograph, you could also contact a company who does PVD to make an image of it and transfer it to your case back - in black perhaps?

This honestly makes no sense. The op seems to come in contact with JM, so obviously it's not a point of just putting a signature there, but more about attaching a personal experience to it with someone he likes and has a similar connection to the item.
If not I would just write Micheal Jordan's name on my Jordans and call it a day, for this a person's autograph would mean much much more.

I for one can't help the op but I'm sure there are many engravers out there. I think laser etching will be much more impossible or incredibly expensive.

I agree with a lot of this. I've already got the laser etching covered. Just need something reliable to get me to that step.

I like the guy. I'm a big fan of his music. He's a world-class guitarist. He's also a watch guy who loves the BLNR. I like him so I figure "why not?" If I end up thinking it's dumb later, I can replace the case back. However, it would mean something to me.

I think him initialing the caseback is a great idea and will be easier to engrave.

I would have him sign the box or something and then scan the signature so that it can be shrunk down small enough to fit on a case back by the engraver. Be sure to take a picture of you with him while he signs.
