Thoughts on GMT II 126711CHNR future value
Hello everyone,
I'm new member to this forum but have been a Rolex owner/wearer for over 30 years, owning a bi-metal diamond dot Datejust bought back in 1987 and a 2007 Submariner steel/gold blue face 16613 that I bought 2 years ago. I'm looking to acquire a GMT II and have added myself to a rather long waiting list for a SS BNLR because the 2nd hand prices of these are approximately £2k over MRSP I'm also quite tempted by the new steel/roselor 126711CHNR version. As with the BNLR I've expressed an interest with my local AD, whom suggested this would be easier to come by. Clearly there's no discounts on offer for either watch - not even a sniff of interest free credit either. I'd really appreciate forum member's thoughts on what short/medium term price trend will be on the 126711CHNR. In 12-24 months time will the price of 2nd hand (pre-owned) examples be a hundreds if not thousands less than MSRP (as per bi-metal subs and black faced GMTs) or do you think it could be like the SS GMTs & Subs that simply carry a premium for the foreseeable future. To be clear, I'm not looking to turn a quick profit on either of the GMTs. My daughter is aspiring to be a pilot and given the heritage of the GMT, I've offered to buy her a GMT if/when she gains her wings - be that commercial or military. Given that Rolex prices only head in 1 direction I feel it's worth making the investment sooner rather than later. That said I wouldn't want to be paying MSRP for the 126711CHNR if in 12-18 months time there'll be a variety of pre-owned examples selling for significantly less than MSRP. Any thoughts or suggestion would be much appreciated. Darren.... |

The way its looking and by how fast they sell I would say its not gonna die down anytime soon. The Full RG version is crazy expensive. I've seen them around $38k. Damn.

The full RG version didn't float my boat - I'm hoping that the rose gold centre links against the steel complement each other better. Local AD said they did have a SS/RG one pass through the shop - which sold in around 3 hours after being put on display ! Could this be a frenzy that dies down after 6 months after which pre-owned examples go for less than MSRP? I fully appreciate this is crystal ball territory though. |

In 12-18 months time the CHNR should be easier to get. Whether or not it's still selling at MSRP is unknown. The first questions I'd be asking are above. |

I hadn't thought much about her wearing the watch if she ends up in the RAF - I guess it could still be a off-duty watch. One of the reasons for asking about pricing was that should she fall out of favour with the watch, then she/me wouldn't be making a loss on it. |
