Decisions decisions! BLNR vs 114060 as part of a collection w 116500LN & 126710BLRO

Hi guys,

The collection never stops shifting or being tweaked haha. I’m currently on the list for a new SS BLRO and word from my AD is that it will come soon enough. I currently have a BLNR as well as a black dial ceramic Daytona. My question is this: Should I keep the BLNR (and have 2 GMTs in the collection), or should I flip the BLNR for a 114060 and pocket some cash?

Ever since I was a kid the Pepsi was what I identified as Rolex and I will be taking (and keeping) the Pepsi. By flipping the BLNR for a 114060 (I prefer the symmetry of the dial over the sub date), I will have the Rolex land/air/sea trio (which I think is kinda neat), and I will have 3 different functions (chrono/gmt/diver), with 3 different bracelets (pcl oyster/brushed oyster/jubilee). So i'm pretty exited about that!

So why am I doubting the decision? On an individual watch basis, I like the BLNR better than a sub. If I were to own 1 watch, I would pick the BLNR every day over the sub. It just has flavor, while the sub is kinda vanilla - beautiful vanilla, but still vanilla. So knowing this, it's kinda hard to on purpose get rid of a watch that you like, for a watch you like less (individually), for the sake of a more “well-rounded” collection… I mean I don’t hate the sub… I lust after one regularly (which is why i'm considering this)! I just prefer the BLNR over it head to head. So I’m not sure if I should keep the BLNR knowing the Pepsi will be the new king in the collection. Either way the BLNR/114060 will play 2nd fiddle to the Pepsi while the Daytona is more for special occasions or Fridays and is not in the “everyday rotation”.

Thoughts?

I’ve got both. Won’t sell either.

Same DNA but extremely different.

I'd go for a SD4K instead. Perhaps an SD43 if that is more to your liking.

For me, I would not have both as they really don't fill a different niche from each other. You could make the argument for having an SS GMT and say the new CHNR as one is a bit more dressy.

Yes, I totally get that... that's why its on my mind. Not a fan of TT watches, but i do see the redundancy of 2 SS GMT's.

Definitely no SD... dont like the date location on the SD4k (cant unsee it after you see it haha) and the SD43 is too big for my wrist (wanted to love it but not meant to be). I dont have to have a date, and that's why I prefer the 114060 to those 2 choices (good fit and perfect symmetry).

But it fits and feels perfect as opposed to the 114060 which feels awkward to me.

BLNR is an amazing, simple design. No busyness, just function. Add a brushed bracelet and Glidelock and it would near the Sub’s versatility imo.

Wise words. I have considered brushing the BLNR's bracelet or getting a submariner's bracelet for it... havent looked into acquiring one though, just thought about it. Definitely an option.

If you must sell, I'd go with a Hulk or SD43 over the no date Subs. No need to add another glossy black dial imo

A balanced collection shouldn't be your priority instead of what you like more, in this case the BLNR.

I definitely prefer the BLNR, but I also want a sub. And that Rolex air/land/sea trio is quite appealing haha. But in all seriousness, you make a great point, and it agrees with the keeping the BLNR side. Still want a sub though haha.

Then by all means, add the Sub also

I'd flip the BLNR,grab the 114060 and put some cash back into my pocket!

I like your thinking. If only it was a no-brainer. I do like the BLNR better than the sub (but not like 90/10... more like 60/40).

This, I found the black sub a bit vanilla too so I swapped for a LVc and am very happy.

You are thinking too much.......!! I would wait for the new GMT and see how things go.....you might decide to stick with what you have but probably best just to focus on one "challenge" at a time

Best advice so far. The collection is always on my mind. 1 challenge at a time is gold. Thank you!

Tough call but I think I’d prefer to have 1 sub, 1 Daytona and 1 GMT.

The idea sounds good until you said you like the BLNR better than the Sub so I'm not going there, although if it were me I'd do it.
