Why is this watch (Tudor) going for so much money?
I mean, it needs a ton of work and a (I think) better condition one with work done is only like $2k more...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/401569938123?ul_noapp=true What am I missing that is so special about this? |

Ha - I am watching this one too. I think it's just a rock solid example of how sought after vintage snow flakes are. I remember a mere few years ago where you could get an excellent condition piece w box and papers for less than this one sold for...PS - it sold for $7100 !

Yeah. Weird. For years I've specialized in watches bought "as found" and from the original owner. As many of you know, there is broad market especially outside the usa for these types of things. This WAS high for sure but not unusual.
I also suspect many dealer/collectors like to mess with these and put after market parts on them to wear them. I abhor that practice. I would rather sell one in "As found" condition and not messed with than put a phony bezel and such on it or even a replacement crown. Seems people either want the perfect... rare..or in original condition. But that's just me. your experience may differ! Cheers! (let's see what the other one does that I bought from the same guy). Thanks! |

Just finding a nice example for sale is nearly impossible. So yes; this is a project worth while.

I was surprised by this as well didn’t realize the Swiss only dials were commanding such a wide premium.

unpolished chase. swiss only dial. What is not to like.
Crown and tube 150ish bezel 300 insert 1500ish service 450 2400-2600 is my estimate 7100 plus 2500 is 9600 for a project. Lots can go wrong here....the movement looked pretty toxic so i think that is likely on the low end. FMV imho, if all complete is around 10-11k. Little bit of upside here. Getting paid for the risk. I wish i would have bought it.....but alas you cannot own them all:) i came across a similar situation last year. I was able to build one for about 5.250 all in. No service needed though. unpolished, swiss only, mark 3 etc. I am glad i did it then. |

And just a few years ago, the Tudor subs were almost an afterthought that could be had for pennies compared to their Rolex counterparts. They werent cheap but were much more affordable than a comparable Rolex sub. Now they are really starting to creep up into Rolex territory.

MAtt,
true. I used to buy them for 200 in the 80's and sell them for 300. But hey, we all used to throw away faded Paul newman dials as they were unsalable. Nast faded things! lolololo true! |

Anyone know why there hasn't been a new bid even though people already bid 32 times in the first few days?

Smart buyers either bid their absolute true maximum at the beginning so they don’t get caught up in the emotional aspect of auctions... or they snipe with 5 seconds left.

I had to stop myself from bidding too much for this and I have all the bits to fix it, I know I’ll be kicking myself this time next year.

Why is this watch (Tudor) going for so much money?
I always notice that the patina on the hour and minute hands are different shade. I noticed this on my first owner 7016 sub as well, very interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I assume the guys at HQMilton bought the watch. I found this on IG, they fixed the rattling thing between the lugs (what's the name again?).
Looks identical, even the pip is missing, links are identical on both sides (4-6). Ebay picture: HQMilton |

Jeff Hess - I responded to your email and tried to respond to your PM but your inbox here is full
Yes, and even with the correct dial the 7928 with no gilt track is the lowest priced out of the 7928 line and would be notably less than a good condition, no date flake any day of the week.

What do you mean by gilt “track”? Sorry, I’m new to the vernacular |
