I have found fun in collecting watches again thanks to Seiko! I previously got bored and frustrated because of the lack of availability of the watches I wanted (mainly Rolex) and I refuse to pay the premiums being asked. I then discovered Grand Seiko and from there to Seiko.
In a way I know many here won’t understand or think is stupid, GS and Seiko have become for me my version of Rolex.
Seiko have so many models that are affordable I find it fun to hunt and collect them. In the process of looking for a SZSC004 right now :)

Seiko is awesome. I own a Grand Seiko SBGJ227, skx007, and a Presage blue enamel. They are really high quality for the money and ridiculously good looking watches. I love me some Rolex too, but I gravitate towards that Japanese goodness more than ever, for the same reasons.

Seiko is great. Whether you are spending $200, $1000, or $5000 you're probably getting a watch that shames its similarly priced Swiss competition

Some of the designs do make me scratch my head, and some of the cases are too big, but there's so much variety that I can always find models I like in their catalogue

I'm in Hong Kong right now and I know what you mean. I've seen some Seikos that are not available in the UK that are so left field I am literally scratching my head while looking at them! But then I see others and I have a "must have it" moment.

The only 2 brands that started my watch collecting over the years is Seiko/GS & Rolex. No other brands do it for me.

The bloated pricing, fake scarcity, and play-it-safe designs of the Swiss brands has really turned me off. The joy, fun and excitement that I once had in collecting Swiss watches is gone and replaced by collecting Seiko/Grand Seiko and microbrands.

The games have most certainly turned me off. I was on the way out of the Rolex game as it was starting as I found better value and cases etc with Tudor and others.

But having my collection pretty much where I want it has me looking at less expensive pieces that I can play with and have fun. Seiko amongst others like Movado and Citizen vintage pieces have really got my attention.

My only problem with Seiko is availability for parts, and their latest qc issues on their lower models. Other than that I love them.

Although I love vintage, one thing that has somewhat discouraged me from vintage Seiko is the availability of parts.

I think there is no question Seiko gives me the best value for money mechanical watch period.

Seiko has some cracking amazing watches and I'm sure there is more to come.

I've found there to be quite plentiful spare parts on eBay for vintage Seiko (1960s/early 70s King Seiko especially). I've been tempted to buy up a few bits and pieces for the future, just in case, as my KS collection grows.

You can't get parts for most 6r15's and 8l35's unfortunately.

I guess if you're in the repair game that can be a problem, but Seiko still service those movements, and I'm lucky to have a Seiko Service Centre nearby.

Bloated prices and fake scarcity is so true. Walking around the pre owned watch dealers in Hong Kong they all have 2018 116610LVs, BLNRs etc. I said I won't pay bloated prices and the sales person just said, you don't pay you don't get. I too have my collection where I mostly want it and Seiko allows me to keep things fun.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!!

You've probably noticed that Seiko prices are quite a bit cheaper in HK than UK, too. Rolex seems to adjust their prices upwards to take account of no sales tax here, so there's not that much difference, but I noticed the SLA025 is 5,000 pounds UK, which will include VAT, but about 4,300 here.

Rolex used to play up the tax advantage of Hong Kong shopping in their tourist brochure advertising years ago, but then I guess they just thought they'd take up the slack themselves.

Quite a bit cheaper indeed especially if you go the grey route. I have noticed the Rolex prices being not what they used to be in HK, it’s the other way round now. If I have a friend who wants to buy a Rolex they’ll wait until they visit the UK and take advantage of the VAT and currency situation.

Me too. Gotten crazy over seiko past couple of years. Started with GS then Seiko 5.

Now with vintage and prospex.

Hunting srpa19 now.

Once you have the Rolex you want, you can then have some fun and some real quality satisfaction, enjoyment with Seiko.
