Icon20 Why do so many people dislike the two-tone Datejust 41 watches?

Hello everyone,

I am new to the site and I have been collecting Rolex watches for about 16 years. I am also starting to approach the 50 year age milestone. I am seriously thinking about buying a Rolex DJ 41 Two Tone with Yellow Gold, fluted bezel and Champagne dial. Many of my watch friends have told me that this is a terrible purchase and you should only buy gold or steel.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thank you,

Rolex Two-Tone Interest

Buying what everyone else likes - and you don’t is the terrible purchase you refer to.

If you like it - that’s all that matters.

i'm in my late 30's and i abhor gold... i suppose it looks 'old' to me?
i do like rosegold tho... i suppose it looks more modern and fresh to someone like me?

maybe my taste will change as i get older? i dunno...

I am upper middle aged, but I’ve found the Bluesy attractive since I was younger. There is no accounting for taste! Get what you like!

I have a TT GMTc. I really enjoy it. I like TT as well as full gold. I don’t consider the TT a wannabe versus full gold. I think it’s a nice intermediate step if full gold is too much.

I just recently bought this. Wear it every day and will be my grandson's heirloom. Love this watch.

Don’t care about what anyone thinks. The TT DJ41 w/ champagne dial is a nice watch. It is a classic Rolex in a modern size. Now I would buy this from a grey dealer and save 20% (around 2.5k) unless you don’t care because it is a milestone birthday. The rose gold version is nice as well. I suggest trying several watches on before deciding.

It is a puzzle to me that most TT professional models sell at a discount on the boards compared to their SS counterparts.

The price is simply determined by supply and demand.

To the OP, the like or dislike depends on fashion. Just buy what you like.

That isn’t what I meant - we all get the economics.

The confusion is Why people dislike the TT vs. SS

Get what you want! As long as it is what you like, then who cares what others think?

Personally, I love Rolex’s two tone watches!

I've never liked TT. The mix always looked like either someone trying to have gold, without being able to afford an all gold watch, or just a mismatch.

However as I get older and spend more time out of Europe in Asia, the rose gold TT is starting to appeal. Tastes change, and are differnet in around rhe world.

The jubilee TT only looks good in classic (5 digits or less) than the 6 digits. To be honest, even if the watch is real, it looks fake!

We are all entitled to our opinion, but I don't think this looks horrible or fake!

If you’re in the 50 zone, get a full gold Rolex! You deserve it!

I am just not a yelow gold person, it really doesn’t appeal to me. When I obtain my grail, it will be in white gold but heck, to each his own. If you like the watch then buy and wear it.

Stop buying so much Tumi stuff and you can have it in platinum.

My thoughts are: "at close to 50, one has earned one's right to wear what one likes".

The watch you speak of is a stunning piece. Sod what others think and buy what your heart desires.

Interestingly, on the topic of people buying TT because they can’t get full gold, this is absolute rubbish and we need to stop peddling this bonkers theory on TRF. I own a TT GMT and absolutely love it. Conversely, I am not a huge fan of the full gold GMTs, so wouldn’t buy one, which disproves the aforementioned ‘theory’. My full gold purchase planned for next year will either be a YG Daytona OF with champagne dial or a YG DD with champagne dial. I have 8 months to decide.

The TT DJ is a classic and will always have a spot in the watch world. I associate it with the 80's when a lot of the men wore them. I thought they were cool then and I think they are cool now. If that is what you want, go for it.
