First Rolex (Explorer II 216570) and AD Experience
Yesterday I was lucky enough to receive my first Rolex. I have wanted this watch for years and years and was finally fortunate enough to have enough money to make the purchase. I had looked at the second hand market but in the end I decided I would pay the extra money to have my first watch be brand new and from an AD. I've read a lot on the forum pages in the last months about peoples different experiences with ADs so I thought I would share mine with the group.
I visited several ADs in the Northeast and while one or two had the Explorer II with the black dial none had the Polar version of the reference I wanted. I was put 'on the list' at two of these ADs. 'The list' was me putting my name and number on a scrap piece of paper in both cases. It struck me as odd that my name wasn't put into the computer or something more formal. I suspect that my contact information was tossed aside as soon as I walked out the door. This might not be true of course but its certainly the impression I left with. On a visit to Long Island I stopped in an AD who also didn't have the watch I wanted. I was however quite surprised when the sales person told me that it wasn't a big deal and that they could order it for me. I was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to get the watch and I had to leave a 25% deposit. I went for it. I paid retail. The watch arrived yesterday, about 3 and a half weeks after they ordered it for me. I have read lots of threads on here about ADs keeping warranty cards, removing stickers, etc. My watch arrived in all of the Rolex packaging (sleeve, outer box, etc.) The stickers were in place all over the watch, and it had a plastic ring with a little black rubber band on it to protect the bezel. The warranty card with my name on it and all the other documentation were tucked away behind the flap in the top of the Rolex box. Thought I would share my experience so people can add it to their lists of what is and isn't going on with Rolex dealers, and of course here is a picture! 20180919_080203.jpg |

Congrats! Nice watch. I’m on a hunt for a GMT and I had a similar experienice with a local AD who scribbled my name on a piece of scratch paper. I didn’t get the feeling the AD was really adding me to any list but maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt.

Congrats! Glad you had a positive experience. That's refreshing news amidst all of the complaining in other threads.
