ID when buying a watch from the US
Hi All,
I'm based in Europe and am looking to buy a watch in the US (and ship it to friend of mine in the US which I will collect next time I am over). The watch dealer has told me they want me to sign a credit card form, and provide a foto of both the back and front sides of my driving license and credit card. Is this normal ?? I am extremely uncomfortable sending this information to someone regardless of who they are - as they basically have my identity ?! Cheers FC |

Ask him for the same thing. Then both of you are in the same boat.

If you feel uncomfortable then don’t do it.

Seems like they're brick n' mortar. Wouldn't worry.

That seems completely reasonable to me.
Their concern is that it's possible for you decline the charge on your credit card, so the more documentable evidence they have that it was in fact you in person, the less likely they could be the victims of a charge back. As with most hoops, someone dishonest took advantage of them and now we are all required to jump through. ![]() |

For a long distance over the phone transaction, I would want as much ID and protection as I could get. I am actually surprised they would even sell to you.

I don't see an issue here. They want to protect themselves from credit card fraud etc. I'd have no issue as driver's licenses for the most part contain public information.

Thanks all.
Issue is resolved - they were able to setup electronic payment which went through fine. So all in all everything was resolved to everyones satisfaction. |
